We are a high performing team of engineers and designers that develop projects through the project life-cycle engaging exciting projects throughout North America. Our staff leads the power markets engineering process and collaborates with Kiewit’s construction teams to approach construction-driven engineering with a focus on safe, cost-effective, and innovative designs that achieve client expectations and further Kiewit’s legacy of excellence. 

Location

This position is based out of Toronto, ON with opportunity for flexible work options. Travel will be required on occasion, including into the US.

Responsibilities

  • Take leadership and ownership of project initiatives as required. 
  • Perform complex calculations and apply standards and specifications correctly without supervision.  
  • Review project team engineering and design deliverables.
  • Demonstrate critical data analysis and problem solving skills in meeting project challenges as they arise. 
  • Represent the engineering team in client, project management, and vendor meetings and communications.
  • Review vendor documents to ensure specifications and data sheet requirements are met.  
  • Ensure stakeholder vendor document review engagement and coordinate and resolve stakeholder comments.
  • Assign tasks to projects staff and keep track of work loading, progress, and project schedule.
  • Lead mid to large-size projects or proposals.
  • Develop and leads design improvement and cost savings initiatives.
  • Apply techniques/technologies to improve processes and business results.
  • Utilize industry and company standards/tools to achieve effective engineering and design.
  • Serve as resource and mentor to less experienced engineers.
  • Lead projects in how to interpret and apply codes and standards.
  • Lead team in identifying and communicating project scope changes through project execution.
  • Produce design changes as needed to stay within budget and schedule. 
  • Recognize engineering responsibility for public health, safety, and environmental stewardship.
  • Recognize the importance of client/customer needs.
  • Perform assigned work efficiently and effectively to maximize personal productivity.
  • Lead engineering and design quality checks for mid to large-sized projects to ensure accuracy and technical compliance.
  • Demonstrate effective time management in prioritizing project team commitments and individual work requirements.
  • Prepare engineering deliverables including one-lines, schematics, wiring diagrams, equipment data sheets, calculations, specifications, technical requisitions, hazardous area classification drawings, electrical power studies (ETAP), etc.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an CEAB accredited four-year college or university program required.
  • P.Eng recommended.
  • Minimum 15 years' of relevant electrical engineering experience in power engineering-related duties. Experience in the oil and gas market is also welcomed.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision.
  • Previous experience working in a lead role providing  guidance, leadership and training to less experienced engineers.
  • Demonstrated experience working as a team representative, coordinating with inter-discipline and project functional groups.
  • Previous experience in a client facing role.
  • Demonstrated flexibility to adjust to varying work demands and challenges.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills, utilized in preparing presentations, communicating ideas, and gaining stakeholder buy in.
  • Ability to communicates effectively with supervisors and team members, whether remote or in office.
  • Works collaboratively across departments, involving others in problem solving. Initiates meetings within own team, other disciplines or internal customers for clarity on work.
  • Supports project teams and departments positively  and productively. Works well with other to accomplish common goals and objectives.
  • Serves as technical resource and point of contact for external or internal clients.
  • Knowledge of industry codes, guidelines and regulatory standards including  NEC, NFPA and API.
  • Experience with ETAP Electrical Power System Analysis software desired.
  • Knowledgeable in power system studies including load flow, short circuit, arc flash, and relay coordination preferred.
  • Knowledgeable of electrical engineering equipment specifications.
  • Knowledgeable of electrical design codes and standards.
