Position Overview

Reporting to the responsible Construction Manager, this role will support work within the project programs including, the Turbine Hall and Cooling Water Systems and associated auxiliary building and systems and interface with other areas.

During the validation phase the Superintendent will assist in the construction planning and reviews. In execution they will be responsible for the supervision, coordination and scheduling of construction activities for multiple scopes of work in compliance with the contract and the job cost estimate and ensures all the work is completed safely to acceptable standards of quality and workmanship.

Responsibilities

•    Accountable for work planning and execution on the project including methods of construction, manpower levels, materials, tools & equipment, rentals and work schedules.
•    Ensure alignment and partnering with the alliance partners.
•    Monitor and review Plans/Schedules and identify risks, and issues.
•    Review and approve timesheets, expense reports, vacation requests, and training requests, within Limits of Authority.
•    Responsible for performance management of all direct-report employees, including coaching/mentoring, assistance with career planning and training, preparation of yearly and mid-year performance reviews.
•    Ensure all project staff and direct reports understand and comply with applicable code of conduct policies (Kiewit Nuclear Canada and customer policy)
•    Utilize project master schedule to create detailed look ahead schedules for General Foreman.
•    Responsibility for the implementation and enforcement of safety, quality, and human performance programs
•    Ensures that Kiewit Nuclear Canada policies and project procedures are being adhered to and followed by project personnel.
•    Monitor and manage risks, develop recovery strategies when project schedule or budget are in jeopardy.
•    Assume responsibility for productivity of direct hire trade labor and subcontractors, efficient use of materials and tools & equipment and contractual performance of the project.
•    Understanding and support of applicable trade agreements.
•    Application of home company discipline policies and appropriate escalation of performance concerns to Construction Manager
•    Ensure trades personnel complete all necessary training in areas of safety, quality assurance, technical qualifications, equipment operation and owner specified requirements.
•    Review and provide support in the creation of Construction Work Packages
•    Ensure project is constructed in compliance with drawings, specifications, Construction Work Packages and project schedule and budget.
•    Interface with client representatives, design engineers, consultants, other contractors, etc.
•    Ensure project is constructed in accordance with QA Programs and project quality.
•    Other duties as required or assigned.
•    Perform regular field tours to check work progress and meet with project site personnel.
•    Carry out site safety inspections.
•    Participate in company-wide initiatives aimed at overall continuous improvement.

Qualifications

•    Minimum of 7 years Mechanical or Electrical construction and subcontractor supervision experience
•    Knowledge of all aspects of construction such as technology, equipment, methods, trade agreements and jurisdiction, engineering, cost control, scheduling, and safety requirements
•    Must understand how to support a positive Safety Culture.
•    Experience in managing complex industrial construction projects.
•    Ability to read and understand construction drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
•    Must have a full appreciation of the importance of Quality Assurance Program. Due to the nature of work conducted, mandated nuclear export controls requirements must be met for employment
