Position Overview
The Senior Communication Specialist is a strategic internal partner dedicated to aligning communication activities and goals to support the organization – specifically operations. This position reports directly to the Communications/Engagement Director, with direct interaction and involvement with Kiewit’s Corporate Communications group in Omaha, Nebraska. Working closely with partners across the company’s business units, this person will help create messaging and communication strategies and employee engagement for Corporate Environmental, Kiewit Equipment Services (KES) and Kiewit Supply Network (KSN). This role will also support other communications specialists on the team with Corporate Safety, Corporate Quality and 1HR communications and projects.
Operations can be a complex workforce to reach. The Senior Communications Specialist will seek to transform communication to the field, push boundaries in innovative communication, improve information silos at districts and on jobs, make complex information easier to understand and find the best channels to do so in an environment where many don’t have access to traditional communication such as email.
A successful candidate must be a capable writer and communicator, some design and video creation experience preferred, fast learner, adept at managing multiple responsibilities at once, and able to work collaboratively with partners at multiple levels of the organization. This role demands a person with high attention to detail and time management skills to consistently meet deadlines.
Location
This position is based out of Kiewit's headquarters at 1550 Mike Fahey Street. This is a shared service center in a professional office setting.
Responsibilities
• Serve a key role in the development and execution of Corporate Environmental, KSN and communication strategy to help the team achieve business objectives and deliver against key priorities.
• Strategize and recommend appropriate communications based on the audience.
• Ensure a consistent flow of key messages through all communication vehicles, including, but not limited to field-facing toolbox talks, company-wide newsletter style communications, team calls, town halls.
• Be a brand leader for the organization and individual operating units.
• Help develop internal communication strategies each year for your clients that include efforts to increase engagement, morale, and productivity, and increase overall communication.
• Research and employ key metrics to regularly assess the effectiveness of all internal communication.
• Partner with third party vendors who assist with mass communication and key messaging to operations/those that work in the field.
Qualifications
• More than 3 years of communication experience, including a history of using employee communication best practices to align and drive behaviors.
• A bachelor's degree is required (journalism, communication or related field strongly preferred).
• Experience working at a large, global company or complex organization and/or experience working on multi-faceted communication.
• Excellent writing skills and attention to detail; examples required.
• Proficient in MS Office Suite, Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop
• Ability to capture video, video editing skills or the ability and desire to learn video editing.
• Previous track record of successfully meeting deadlines and project expectations.
• Ability to work non-standard office hours, as necessary, and travel when required.
• Experience with a broad range of communication channels (e.g., written, social media) and able to use them strategically to influence and inform important stakeholders.
