Position Overview

A Survey Intern position with Kiewit provides a hands-on learning experience working both in the field and in the office, directly relating to the skills needed in a full-time surveying career. You will have the opportunity to develop, participate and learn key roles and functions within surveying.

District Overview

Kiewit’s Central District is one of our largest infrastructure districts specializing in heavy civil, structural concrete/bridge, water/wastewater, and transportation projects. We self-perform work such as mass grading, drainage, paving, utility and more - so be ready to get your hands dirty! While headquartered in Denver, Colorado, the majority of our work is concentrated in the Central and South-Central regions of the United States.

Location

Although headquartered in Denver, Colorado, Central District has projects that span anywhere from the Rockies to the Mississippi. A majority of our work is concentrated in Colorado, Tennessee, Nebraska, New Mexico, and Montana. In addition, we partner with many of our sister districts who have work in the surrounding states such as Texas, Kentucky, and Louisiana. Our projects are located in both large cities and small towns, so our people must be willing to go where the work is.  Job assignment location will be determined closer to your start date.  Must be able to travel and relocate as business requires.

Responsibilities

  • Follow the project survey plan specific to field operations
  • Maintain accurate record keeping, field procedures and survey audits to ensure that all work is performed in an efficient and professional manner
  • Utilize software to process field data
  • Follow proper field safety procedures
  • Take accurate and legible field notes
  • Perform setting and maintenance of control network
  • Communicate with project surveying team 

Qualifications

  • Ability to travel and relocate initially and throughout your career as business requires
  • Ability to work full-time during the summer (approximately May-August)
  • Currently pursuing a degree in surveying or related field
  • Ability to freely access all points of a construction site in a wide-ranging climates and environments  
  • Strong work ethic, willing to do what it takes to get the job done right the first time 
  • Demonstrated commitment to ethics and integrity 
  • Passion for safety, with the ability to help us ensure that nobody gets hurt 
  • Team player with the ability to work independently to meet deadlines, goals and objectives 
  • Strong organization, time management, and attention to detail 
  • Reliable transportation to and from work
  • Ability to begin or continue working with our company without requiring sponsorship for employment now or in the future

Other Requirements:
•    Regular, reliable attendance
•    Work productively and meet deadlines timely
•    Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment
•    Perform work safely and effectively. Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies.
•    Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines. Work overtime and weekends as required.
•    May work at various different locations and conditions may vary

 

Hourly Compensation: $20.00 - $24.50 
(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
