Position Overview
Kiewit Industrial & Water Engineering is seeking an Architectural Engineer Intern with an Electrical focus for our Building Group. We are looking for ideal candidates to grow the Kiewit team by helping establish, maintain, and improve company standards and tools while also utilizing these standards and tools to contribute to project success. Candidates shall be familiar with current drawing and technical tools, programs, and software with an understanding of design documentation creation and layouts. Candidates shall be capable of exhibiting flexibility in work assignments while maintaining a growth mindset and continuing to develop in their technical and professional career.

We have specialized expertise in plant floor process design, packaging, refrigerated/frozen facility design, and ammonia refrigeration systems.
Location
This position is based in our Lenexa, KS office.
Responsibilities
- Close to moderate supervision by a more experienced architect and/or engineer.
- Develops familiarity with departmental design standards, applicable codes, policies, guidelines, and standards.
- Understands, contributes to, and adheres to the Kiewit Engineering Quality Plan requirements and objectives.
- Prepares basic engineering calculations and following standard methods and principles used in similar engineering analyses.
- Prepares basic architectural, or mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP) design sketches for drafting and incorporation into final plans.
- Assists in checking various prepared drawings and documents as assigned and within established guidelines.
- May inspect construction site to monitor progress and ensure conformance to architectural/MEP drawings, specifications, and construction.
- Checks vendor drawings for compliance to design specifications.
- Submits lessons learned to the department database.
- Communicates with other disciplines to coordinate design interfacing issues.
Qualifications
- Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architectural Engineering (with an Electrical or MEP focus) and, in addition to architectural courses, has started electrical courses from an ABET accredited college or university
- GPA above 3.0 preferred
- Should be comfortable with the use of basic spreadsheet, database, and word processing programs
- Must be familiar with basic structural analysis software, engineering software, and basic CADD software for reviewing drafter’s work
- Highly desirable that the individual will have specific knowledge of MathCad, REVIT, and Navisworks
