Position Overview
As a Quality Specialist, you will be responsible for inspections and tests related to specific scopes of work such as welding, piping, structural concrete, civil, survey, geotechnical, mechanical, and electrical. You will also perform other duties as your supervisor directs to meet project quality requirements. To maximize your effectiveness, you must develop a thorough understanding of the project scope and schedule as they relate to your specific assignment.
District Overview
Kiewit's Southeast District is one of Kiewit's leading infrastructure districts specializing in heavy civil, transportation, and water resource markets. Projects you could be working on could include building bridges, airports, mass transit systems, canals, dams, pump stations or tunnels. Although most of our work is regionally based in the southeast region of the United States, we also pursue various projects stretching across the east coast. Responsibilities
- Provide system quality control support by conducting inspections and testing on various scopes of work, particularly electrical components.
- Support team members in their roles as program focal points for quality control and assurance, acting as liaisons with other functional departments.
- Develop a thorough understanding of the project scope, contract documents/specifications, and schedule as they relate to specific assignments.
- Examine and inspect field conditions to identify problems, inaccuracies, and cost-saving measures. Take corrective actions as needed.
- Assist with identifying and reporting rework and non-conforming issues through to resolution.
- Review various project submittals for compliance with contract documents/specifications and communicate findings with functional departments.
- Assist the supervisor in completing and accepting daily reports required and reviewed by the client.
Qualifications
- Self-starter with exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Working knowledge of the specific trade or discipline as assigned, including associated special processes, inspection, and testing techniques.
- Working knowledge of construction industry codes related to the area of expertise (e.g., ACI, AWS, ASME, NEC).
- Associate degree in engineering technology or science plus four years of experience in a related construction field (at least one year in a QA/QC position) or a high school diploma or equivalent (GED) plus four years of experience in a related construction field (at least two years in a QA/QC position).
- Surveyor Experience: Person with three years of survey experience currently working under the direct supervision of a Professional Surveyor and Mapper (PSM).
- Civil: Graduate civil engineer with two years of related experience or a person with five years of related experience.
- Mechanical: Graduate mechanical engineer with two years of related experience or a person with five years of related experience.
- Electrical: Graduate electrical engineer with two years of related experience or a person with five years of related experience.
- Structural: Graduate structural engineer with two years of related experience or a person with five years of related experience.
- Concrete, Pavement, Soils: Materials technician with two years of experience in the appropriate area.
- Geotechnical: Graduate civil engineer (with a geotechnical track or focus) with three years of related experience or a person with five years of related experience on constructions of a similar nature to the contract.
