Position Overview

Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering (KIE) has an immediate need for a dynamic Infrastructure Facilities and Architecture Project Lead in our growing Design Build Group. You will be part of our rapidly growing Infrastructure Design Department, which includes structural, geotechnical, civil, drainage, roadway, rail, and materials disciplines, is a multi-faceted and leading-edge division of Kiewit with best-in-class technical expertise focused on the design-build delivery of infrastructure projects. 

The successful candidate will help further develop the technical integrity of the infrastructure facilities and transit design group in eastern united states as well as drive development of infrastructure facility solutions across many clients and projects.  We are interested in someone who is passionate, self-motivated, and has a strong desire to research, learn, and grow a team of leading experts in the field of infrastructure architecture and facility experts in the eastern US; someone who can appropriately apply innovative technical solutions to solve problems and provide services to our clients.

Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering's Design-Build team is driving clients to turn to Kiewit during all stages of design-build projects.  Through our integrated design and construction approach, our multi-disciplinary team works together to improve schedule, control costs and minimize risk.  Our construction-focused engineers work collaboratively with our estimators and builders to design solutions that are innovative, constructible, and designed with a focus on safety.   Clients benefit from the proven processes and tools used by Kiewit to minimize project risk. This role will be based out of Kiewit’s Woodcliff Lake, NJ or McLean, VA office.


The Infrastructure Facilities and Architecture project leader will represent, supervise, and mentor a highly successful regional team of architects and facility design professionals and developers, lead quality projects for a diversity of public- and private-sector clients, and work with other leaders across Kiewit to advance the technical and business applications of the infrastructure facilities and transit architecture practice.

The successful candidate will join our dynamic, growing team of designers and architects. The Lead Architect will further develop and drive the firm’s design philosophy and will oversee Kiewit’s design staff and projects to provide creative and functional designs to our clients. This person will be responsible for the overall creative direction and design quality control by continually improving department workflow, processes, and systems. This person will design transit facilities and stations, infrastructure support facilities, bridge structures and supporting aviation infrastructure.  We can offer the right person a great opportunity to design, manage, and lead in a design-build group that strives for design excellence.

The successful candidate will implement QA/QC procedures and support a culture of quality among the team and practice. This position includes participation on planning, directing, and monitoring all project management aspects infrastructure facility tasks and projects for the team, and requires an understanding of project management principles, a commitment to quality, and dedication to client satisfaction and project delivery. The successful candidate will monitor emerging innovative solutions and market opportunities within the infrastructure architecture practice while developing strategies to ensure Kiewit maintains our reputation as technical leaders in infrastructure facilities. 

The position requires excellent communication skills, both written and oral, to proactively manage and respond to geospatial and information management needs from other technical practices within Kiewit. Additionally the position requires excellent interpersonal skills, used for personnel management, performance reviews, career development, and coordination of personnel resources as required by project needs.


•    10+ years of experience designing and leading major infrastructure facilities and/or architecture projects in the eastern US and nationally.
•    Must be a Registered Architect 
•    Serves as subject matter expert on architectural projects of the largest size.
•    Understanding of BIM and CAD platforms, including Autodesk Revit and familiarity with related tools and processes.
•    Firsthand experience in developing and implementing a robust Project Specific Design Criteria for a major infrastructure facility projects including effectively communicating the criteria to the project team and monitoring its compliance through the QC program.
•    Must have experience in preparation and layout of architectural contract documents and specifications. 
•    Verbal and written communication skills including the ability to write technical memos and papers, and present technical topics on a local and national scale at recognized industry seminars.
•    Has overall responsibility for coordination with sub-consultants and reviews and supervises work of less experienced architects and team members.  Responsible for all project work planning and scheduling.  
•    Demonstrate the ability to serve as an Infrastructure Facility project leader which would include the development of a project’s technical approach, fee development, design schedule, and implementation of QA/QC.
•    Ability to identify industry trends and determine where company capabilities can be marketed to existing and potential clients.
•    Assists with the promotion, discipline, performance review, work allocation, training and mentoring of staff.
•    Prior experience in personnel supervision required
•    Bachelor’s Degree in architecture

Preferred Qualifications
•    Prior experience in oversight of architecture in the construction of transportation facilities 
•    Experience and/or interest in sustainable design. LEED and / or Envision professionals highly desired.
