Position Overview

We are an innovative team of engineers and designers that supports projects throughout the company. Our staff leads and collaborates with Kiewit’s module fabrication and construction teams to approach construction-driven engineering with a focus on safe, cost effective, and innovative designs that achieve client expectations and further Kiewit’s legacy of excellence. As an Electrical Designer with us, you will be responsible for developing detailed electrical systems designs and 3D models while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to integrate electrical designs into overall project plans.

District Overview

MEC-NY is an electrical contractor that focuses primarily on the electrical side of Kiewit's Eastern District. Kiewit’s Eastern District specializes in challenging heavy civil construction projects throughout the Northeast. We are leaders in bridge, transit, foundation, tunnel, and water/wastewater construction while specializing in cast-in-place concrete, structural steel erection, earthwork, pile driving, and caissons. Kiewit’s Eastern District also has a large amount of work in the energy/power sector in various northeast locations. With our experienced and dedicated employees, extensive resources and in-depth market knowledge, the Eastern District can handle projects of any size.

This position will be on site at one of our jobs

Responsibilities

  • Prepares means and methods drawings per MEC-NY standards/guides by using designated software (AutoCAD)
  • Develops conduit layouts and similar documents for addition into field work packs
  • Responsible for continuously reviewing and modifying submitted drawings 
  • Works closely with Local 3 construction team, modifies drawings based on field input
  • Creating background files
  • Works closely with various department managers and engineers
  • Keeps quantity book for major volumes as well as red line and as built version of the Project being built
  • Integrate quantities to project schedule by areas and work discipline.
  • Review of shop drawings and submittals
  • Review and edit construction specifications as assigned or requested
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested 

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Electrical Technology or High School diploma + 2 years’ experience as a minimum.
• 0-2 years' minimum relevant experience.
• Familiarity with DEP projects.
• Adjusts to varying demands of work and performs well.
• Communicates effectively orally and in writing. Present ideas clearly and in professional manner.
• Participates on teams effectively. Accepts direction from the team. Individually contributes to success of the team.
• Develops cooperative working relationships and open communication within and across groups, to work towards solutions that benefit all involved parties.  Seeks expertise, advice and perspectives from a variety of sources.
• Preferred experience with MicroStation
• Proficiency in AutoCad and can pick up marks.
• Able to manage responsibilities and meet deadlines under supervision.

Base Compensation: $80,000/yr - $110,000/yr

(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
