Position Overview

Kiewit Infrastructure Engineers (KIE) is looking for an experienced Utility Manager to join our Lone Tree team. This job position will support project pursuits and awarded projects by coordinating and managing utilities on a variety of Kiewit’s largest projects.  The candidate should possess enough experience to be considered a subject matter expert in the field of utility construction and be experienced with infrastructure utility coordination.  The utilities team is integral to the pursuit, engineering and construction project team to ensure we provide the best service possible to each client. 

Our work includes but is not limited to: water, sewer, gas, petroleum, electric transmission & distribution (aerial and underground), telecom fiber & copper (aerial and underground). 

District Overview

Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering's Design Build Management team are driving clients to turn to Kiewit during all stages of design-build projects to manage their multi-disciplined design teams to improve schedule, control costs, and minimize risk. Our construction-driven engineers analyze root causes and resolve design issues before they impact schedule and budget. Particularly on large design-build projects, clients benefit from the proven processes and tools used by Kiewit to minimize project risk. We are an in-house resource that supports projects throughout the company. Our staff shares experiences gained, innovative concepts, and design best practices for all projects that we support.

This position is based out of our Westlake, TX offices

Responsibilities

  • Assistant Dept Manager, overseeing a group of Utility Coordinators with coverage across North America and Canada. 
  • Budgeting for costs and labor hours (KIE and subconsultants), claiming, forecasting. Identifying scope changes and initiating extra work requests. This includes risk analysis and attack plans to mitigate.
  • Interface with other departments within Utility Group such as design, SUE, estimating, and ROW.
  • Supports estimating lead for pricing of construction and professional service work plus input on scheduling tasks, durations and logic.
  • Promote effective communication through use of standardized tools.
  • Establish effective working relationships with project teams on construction and design side to ensure our group is effective carrying out the Utility Coordination role, provide status updates.
  • Issue resolution on projects through personal involvement or additional resources. 
  • Promote & enforce use of our Standard Operating Procedures for Utility Coordination.
  • Consultant sourcing, execute contracts or task orders, and manage consultants.
  • Resource planning for staff and consultants, use project lookahead tools to anticipate needs. Recruiting and hiring; oversight of growing the Utility Coordination group at KIE.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors in Civil engineering or equal STEM type degree preferred 
  • Minimum 15 years industry experience; preferably 5yr+ design-build environment & 10yr+ with utility coordination.
  • Experience working with Bentley Microstation and ProjectWise.
  • Experienced use of Bluebeam.
  • Capability to manage people and resources nationally.
  • Experience with different construction techniques and constructability of Utilities and associated Civil aspects in Design-Build projects.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong inter-personal skills and an ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
  • Ability to organize and handle multiple project assignments.
  • Ability to travel to assignments based on business needs.
  • Ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environments
