Position Overview

The successful candidate will be responsible for strategic market direction, project development, sales campaigns, client relations, and contract negotiations for Mining and Mineral Processing projects. He or She will develop and maintain trusting relationships with key client, OEM and critical partner decision makers, stay abreast of client organizational and market changes, provide advice to design team of client needs and industry standards/requirements, and understand the business development opportunities with existing and potential clients. As such, the successful candidate will have responsibility for recommending market strategy and target opportunities; developing proposal strategy and participating in proposal and estimate preparation; provide insight and counsel for design parameters, ensure overall client satisfaction and relationship maintenance during project(s) lifecycle; keeping abreast of industry regulatory changes; and developing focused marketing approaches.

This is a senior leadership role within Kiewit and the successful candidate will have a real impact on shaping and transforming the resources & energy industry through the development and execution of truly world class Mining & Mineral Processing projects.

District Overview

Kiewit Energy U.S. is based in Houston, TX with presence in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Canada.  We are a major industrial contractor that work on projects that involve engineering and  construction of major mine developments and oil & gas facilities such as oilsands processing, including steam–assisted gravity drainage facilities, upgrading & refining, midstream facilities, power & co-generation, terminal projects (ex. LNG, LPG, etc.),   We also have a Modular Yard facility in Edmonton, Alberta. Our engineering branch is a leading-edge division that offers innovative engineering services for our current projects and new pursuits in Canada.  Our design services group are based in Calgary and Houston offering expertise in process, piping, mechanical, electrical and civil/structural disciplines.   

 

Location

This position may be based out of Toronto, ON, Vancouver, BC or other location with approval of Kiewit leadership.  Offices are shared service environments in a professional office setting.

Responsibilities

This position will have responsibility for complex project negotiations (EPC, high risk, large scale, etc.) and interface with business development for the Mining and Mineral Processing markets as well as marketing of Kiewit’s capabilities to owners needing full-scope EPC services and other Engineering, Procurement, and Construction firms that require construction-only or EPC services. In addition, the position will interact and manage relationships with key OEM’s in this segment along with key third- party engineering companies. The successful candidate will perform the following:

  • Develop, prepare, and implement short and long-term business development plans ensuring they conform to corporate objectives. Recommend and present these plans to senior management as required.
  • Work closely with “Get Work” teams and other departments ensuring maximum exposure of the Company’s capabilities, including an understanding of the offerings of other Kiewit business units and the presentation of those capabilities when appropriate.
  • Provide technical assistance, subject matter expertise, and industry regulatory insight to ensure client satisfaction on design and plant performance and compliance.
  • Develop trusting relationships with key decision makers.
  • Analyze each opportunity and/or strategic client and provide feedback to the “Get Work” teams.
  • Attend and effectively represent the Company at trade organization functions as identified and directed by management and in concert with other Kiewit business units.
  • Keep executive management informed of conditions, activities, and trends including customer or prospect changes, technical developments, market dynamics and competitive strategies.
  • Develop and maintain leadership roles in the Mining and Mineral Processing marketplace.

Qualifications

• 15+ years’ experience in the Mining and Mineral Processing marketplace or similar markets

• Required knowledge of industry regulatory, process innovation, and overall system requirements, including technologies involved.

• Able to rapidly develop strategies and tactical plans to position Kiewit in these markets

• Demonstrated experience is project development and understanding of full phase project development, from FEL0 to commissioning.

• Proven, verifiable, track record of developing team and approach leading to successful sales pursuits - GC, EPC, etc.

• This individual must be well organized and have a high energy level.  He or she must be a perceptive self-starter who can plan effective sales and marketing programs and keep get work team aware of industry trends, market swings, and competitor activities.

• Be innovative and have the ability to perceive business opportunities and work closely with company management in developing and executing strategies which capitalize on these opportunities.

• Able to negotiate contracts with clients, OEMs, and partners with support from legal team

• Must possess a professional demeanor that builds trusting relationships 

• Strong client skills and demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships wit VP/SVP and CxO level 

• Excellent collaboration skills and mindset 

• Excellent written and oral communication skills

• Interact effectively both professionally and socially with people of all levels

• Aggressive about career advancement through results-based performance

• Individual must conduct himself/herself in a manner which will reflect favorably upon the company, enhance its reputation and promote good will - the successful individual will have a reputation for integrity, maturity, and sound business judgement. 

• Fluency in English is required. French is desirable   

• Up to 50% travel is requirement
