Position Overview

This is a front-line supervisor position with responsibility specifically to the electrical construction discipline. Our Superintendents set the highest expectations for safety, quality, schedule and cost performance. Their roles and responsibilities are to plan and lead operations to achieve these expectations while working with a team of engineers and supervisors. 

Electrical Superintendents’ responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Supervise construction projects, support heavy civil construction to include temporary power needs such as crushing and batch plants, permanent construction such as electrical, signalization, lighting, and ITS, perform daily inspections of work performed, act as liaison and coordinator between contractors, solve problems that arise,  establish budgetary guidelines for the job and ensure that cost control measures are being followed, provide job safety training and awareness for all personnel, establish quality standards of all jobs and ensure that quality assurance and company standards are being met, develop and manage job schedules (three-week, 90 day, man loading), coordinate work with contractors and deliveries with suppliers, and ensure inspections are scheduled appropriately.

District Overview

Kiewit’s Northwest District is headquartered in Vancouver, Washington.  We primarily perform heavy civil projects specializing in earth moving, transportation, roadways, water resources, and underground utilities. We are looking for hard working individuals with a passion for construction who aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty! Our current opportunities are spread across the entire west coast including Alaska and Hawaii. 


This position will start in Anchorage, AK.  However since our projects are located nationwide, multiple relocations may be  required as needed.


•    Hiring and training of craft personnel
•    Mentor and help to grow fellow Kiewit staff 
•    Review and approve the balance of Foremen, journeymen and laborer’s composite labor rates 
•    Oversee and approve the monthly job cost updates and quarterly cash flow projections  
•    Review, approve and negotiate change orders 
•    Develop and implement a plan for project completion and turnover 
•    Ensure that all performance evaluations and completed in a timely fashion for direct reports 
•    Recommend organizational, policy and procedural or staff changes 
•    Preparing work plans and Hazard analysis for the work
•    Assuring quality control
•    Managing and tracking cost
•    Scheduling equipment and subcontractors
•    Administering safety programs
•    Maintaining good owner relations
•    Supervise construction projects
•    Perform daily inspections of work performed
•    Act as liaison and coordinator between contractors and craft employees
•    Solve problems that arise.
•    Develop 90-day, 3-week and daily schedules for crews, equipment and materials.
•    Build on budget and adjust the plan and methods as the work proceeds to improve productivity.



•    A minimum of five years’ experience as General Foreman or Superintendent
•    Management of union labor a plus
•    Direct and supervise crews
•    Broad understanding of technical electrical systems, including but not limited to: 
      o    Underground layout and installation
      o    Instrumentation installation including MCC’s and PLC’s
•    Above ground systems layout and installations, including but not limited to: 
     o    Conduit installations within hazardous locations
     o    Cable tray systems
     o    Cable pulling in conduit and tray
•    Experience managing 20-50 craft employees at one time
•    Prepared to attend meetings with customers and owners/general contractors
•    Must have a positive attitude and possess excellent motivational skills
•    Adapt to new surroundings and new people
•    Must be able to access all points of a construction site
•    Must be able to work with a team and provide input
•    Working knowledge of computers and experience with the use of Microsoft Excel and Word
•    Willing to travel and relocate on an as needed basis; nationwide
•    Able to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future
•    Effective oral and written communication skills.
•    Strong organization/time management skills.
•    Must have a positive attitude and possess excellent motivational skills.
•    Must be a self-starter, highly motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision. 
•    Ability to quickly learn and understand various processes regarding Kiewit’s policies, procedures and software programs.  
•    Ability to identify and resolve any problems that may arise.
•    Excellent organizational, administrative, communication and interpersonal skills.  
•    Strong experience in Leadership, safety, negotiations, planning, and contract administration
