Position Overview
Kiewit Infrastructure Engineers (KIE) is looking for a Civil Designer to join our KIE Utilities team. The role is located in Lone Tree, CO, with the opportunity for flexible work. This job position will support project pursuits and awarded projects by coordinating and managing Utility Design and SUE on a variety of Kiewit’s largest projects. The candidate should possess enough experience to be considered a subject matter expert in the field of utility design and be experienced with infrastructure utility coordination and construction techniques. The utilities team is integral to the pursuit, engineering and construction project team to ensure we provide the best service possible to each client.
Our work includes but is not limited to: water, sewer, gas, petroleum, electric transmission & distribution (aerial and underground), telecom fiber & copper (aerial and underground) and interfaces regularly with Civil Engineering disciplines such as roadway, drainage and structures

Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering's Design Build Management team are driving clients to turn to Kiewit during all stages of design-build projects to manage their multi-disciplined design teams to improve schedule, control costs, and minimize risk. Location
This position is based out of our Lone Tree, CO office. Opportunities for flexible work are available.
Responsibilities
- Perform drafting and layout tasks in microstation, ORD and AutoCAD
- Prepare file structure and manage naming and CAD standards
- Produce and/or implement standard linestyles and symbols
- Create quality level D drawings in 2d by interpreting utility owner records and other sources of utility mapping to create a compiled project map. Apply quality level C and B linestyles based on engineer direction.
- Create professional exhibits, roll plots, strip maps in PDF with page borders and other features meeting industry standards.
- Provide quality control review of client-provided CAD deliverables
- Prepare parcel exhibits and ROW maps
- Perform conceptual utility relocation composite maps
- Prepare plan & profile sheets for utility relocation designs
- Use Open Roads Design (ORD) to cut sections and evaluate existing and proposed surface and subsurface features to support utility conflict analysis
Qualifications
- 5-10 yrs min experience in utility design and/or subsurface utility engineering. Experience in right-of-way survey is also preferred.
- Basic understanding of ASCE38-02 Subsurface Utility Engineering standard
- Basic understanding of reading and interpreting legal land survey documents
- Understanding of coordinate systems, able to transfer/rotate data provided in various formats into project coordinate system
- Basic knowledge of surveying terminology
- Basic knowledge of utility design standards for municipal water and wastewater, gas, pipeline, telecom, electric transmission, and distribution.
- Basic knowledge of other design discipline standards common in transportation such as drainage, roadway, structures, ITS, grading cut/fill.
- Working knowledge of Open Roads Design (ORD) is a plus.

Base Compensation: $60,000 - $85,000
(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
