Position Summary: Operate cranes in accordance with all manufacturer and industry standards. Work in other crafts at levels appropriate to training and skills as requested by project supervision.

 

Essential Functions:

 

  1. Use effective verbal and written communication skills. Add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers and fractions.

 

  1. Plan and lay-out for crane operators work.

 

  1. Read and understand plans, specifications, operators’ manuals, safety manuals, rigging tables and load capacity charts. Visualize two dimensional drawings in three dimensions. Fill out OSHA approved Mobile Crane Periodic Safety Inspection Record daily.

 

  1. Examine/inspect field conditions and identify problems and cost saving measures that arise or that may be encountered. Take corrective actions as needed.

 

  1. Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.

 

  1. Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.

 

  1. Observe functioning of equipment or systems to determine hazards and need for adjustments, repair or replacement.

 

  1. Lift and carry heavy items weighing up to 50 pounds or more.

 

  1. Move in and around confined and cluttered places, and uneven areas. Full range of motion and flexibility.

 

  1. Work up to a 12 hour shift doing hard physical labor in varying temperature extremes and other outside conditions.

 

  1. Climb and maintain balance on steel framework, stairs and ladders.

 

  1. Operators must be thoroughly familiar with crane control functions. Operate crane to lift and move materials and other objects; plan all lifts; proper use of capacity charts; perform rigging inspection and daily equipment inspection; respond accordingly to both hand and verbal commands; observe the travel of all loads and take appropriate action to avoid injury to personnel or damage to property; listen to warning alarms and respond accordingly; read boom angle and drum rotation indicators.

 

  1. Identify safety hazards you or other employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate or minimize hazards.

 

  1. Understand and respond appropriately to all safety hazards and warning devices (i.e. back-up alarms, smell of smoke, different colored warning tags, warning sirens).

 

 

  1. Understand and implement Red Tag procedures in a safe manner.

 

  1. Produce quality work, meeting requirements of plans, specifications and industry standards.

 

  1. Be motivated and work productively.

 

  1. Document maintenance in appropriate logs on assigned equipment. Perform all required inspections of equipment and document results in the appropriate log.

 

  1. Perform all other job related duties as requested by supervisor.

 

  1. Perform all other actions necessary to accomplish the foregoing essential job functions.

 

  1. Coordinate work with other crafts and co-workers on the job.

 

Job Requirements and Qualifications: Education, Experience or Formal Training:

  • Must have working knowledge of equipment capabilities and limitations. Read, understand and

implement the Operations and Safety Manuals as they relate to safety, operation, and maintenance of the crane being operated. Knowledge of crane signals, rigging techniques and rigging limitations. Operator must pass a written exam on general crane knowledge, including use of capacity charts and must demonstrate operating ability through a practical operating test. Operator must also pass the Federal Department of Transportation (DOT) physical for a commercial driver's license as specified in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, Section 391.41. A copy of the executed Medical Examiner's Certificate must be on file before any operation begins. Operators must have copies of their company Equipment Qualification certificate and their current Medical Examiner's Certificate on their person at all times.

 

 

Working Environment:

  • Ability to work in conditions common to a construction site including but not limited to rain, sleet, snow, dust, mud, heat, sun, cold, noise.
  • Ability to work irregular hours, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to work up to a 12-hour shift.

 

 

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift a maximum of 50 pounds.
  • Climb and maintain balance on formwork, steel framework, stairs, ladders and scaffolds.
  • Move in and around confined and cluttered places, and uneven areas. Possess full range of motion and flexibility.
  • The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
