Position Overview

We are adding Superintendents to our Central division of Kiewit to support our growing Infrastructure project portfolio around the country.  As a Superintendent for us, you will lead and supervise all aspects of self-performed construction for a variety of infrastructure projects that could include site prep for major highway infrastructure projects, bridge projects, rail/transit, aviation, water/wastewater and power.  This team is the first construction team to the site, performing site prep for the roads, bridges or industrial buildings. Our team performs mass grading/excavation, cut and fill, drainage, paving, underground piping and utility work, earthwork, site development, concrete form work, asphalt paving, and related activities.  

 

In this role your responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Perform daily inspections of work for Safety, Quality and Productivity. Assure proper planning and communication is happening for all operations that you oversee. Identify and solve problems that arise. Establish budgetary guidelines for the job and ensure that cost control measures are being followed. Provide job safety training and awareness for all personnel. Establish quality standards of all jobs and ensure that all quality assurance and company standards are being met. Develop and manage job schedules (e.g. three-week, 90-day, man loading), coordinate work with other crafts, departments, contractors and suppliers.

District Overview

Kiewit’s Central District is one of our largest infrastructure districts specializing in heavy civil, structural concrete/bridge, water/wastewater, and transportation projects. We self-perform work such as mass grading, drainage, paving, utility and more - so be ready to get your hands dirty! While headquartered in Denver, Colorado, the majority of our work is concentrated in the Central and South-Central regions of the United States. We are looking for people committed to the construction industry rather than design.

Location

This position will be based out of our Tennessee/Kentucky region, at our district office in Brentwood Tennessee, near Nashville, supporting projects in the TN/KY region on per diem with regular trips home form the project.  We offer relocation to the Tennessee area.  

Responsibilities

Supervise the crew(s) and craft workers in the application of all projects. Set performance goals, deadlines and work plans for the crew.

Utilize equipment, material, and labor to maximize production and minimize costs in assigned responsibility. 

Coordinate and interface effectively with superintendents, project engineers, field engineers and Foreman to ensure smooth workflow and schedule adherence. 

Resolve employee conflicts, grievances, and scheduling difficulties, informing project and corporate management as appropriate.    

Assist in schedule planning, determining craft labor needs, material quantities, equipment requirements, etc.

Keep track of material stock and orders. Oversee design change process, and quality control of projects, ensure contracts and subcontracts are documented and followed.  

Ensure project rules, procedures and programs are followed consistently, including those involving safety, attendance, and workplace behavior standards as reflected in Company’s non-harassment and nondiscrimination policies.    

Manage and direct project teams by providing communication, coordination and follow-up to meet project goals and objectives; ensure project scope or work, schedule and budget are clearly defined and understood.

Serve as project representative with client, constructor, subcontractors, and vendors at kick-off meetings, Job walks, project review, and other meetings and correspondence.

Coordinate training and compliance measures to ensure project procedures are followed. Identify and secure necessary approvals for all changes in project scope, budget and/or schedule.

Maintain ongoing communication with client, making adjustments as necessary to comply with client needs within contractual obligations, or adjust project deliverables to meet client and Kiewit needs. Ensure all work products are consistent with industry standards and in accordance with good engineering practice and applicable codes, and in compliance with all pertinent legal codes and requirements.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years’ experience in the construction industry, with at least 5+ years in a supervisory/superintendent role, overseeing self-performed construction.  Highschool degree/GED is required
  • Ideal candidates have broad background with self-perform construction Heavy Infrastructure projects (that could include major highway infrastructure projects, bridge projects, rail/transit, aviation, water/wastewater).  Experience supervising site prep, mass grading/excavation, cut and fill, drainage, paving, underground piping and utility work, earthwork, site development, concrete form work, asphalt paving, and related activities is required.  
  • Direct project oversight on EPC related projects where the work was self-performed by your current employer at the time.   Strong safety and quality committment and record on your projects. 
  • Competent in the use of computer software applications used for project control and administration, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and Outlook.
  • Advanced knowledge of various construction disciplines, safety regulations, scheduling, cost control, engineering drawings and other documents.
  • Demonstrated ability to efficiently supervise and evaluate craft performance. Experience training and developing your crew.  Must be willing to relocate/and or travel.
  • Must be able to read and interpret drawings, plans, specifications, and have a fluent understanding of contract documents.   Strong organization, time management and attention to detail.
  • Highly motivated, with a demonstrated passion for excellence and taking initiative, excellent problem solver, with strong work ethic, willing to do what it takes to get the job done right the first time
  • Demonstrated commitment to ethics and integrity with a passion for safety, with the ability to help us ensure that nobody gets hurt
