Position Overview

Kiewit is seeking a highly skilled Concrete Batch Plant Superintendent to lead and manage concrete batching operations across our active projects in Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi. This role requires deep expertise in concrete production, mix designs, and materials procurement, combined with strong leadership and coordination skills. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of supervising batch plant teams, ensuring production quality, schedule compliance, and adherence to safety standards. This position involves regular travel and demands a proactive, hands-on leader capable of optimizing plant performance and contributing to the overall success of construction operations.

Location

This position requires regular travel to project sites across Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi, depending on operational needs. Candidates must be flexible and willing to mobilize to support project demands in various regional locations.

 

Responsibilities

  • Ensure safety, maintenance, and production of batch plant operations.
  • Serve as organizational expert regarding concrete batching operations, mix designs and trial mixes, and aggregate, cement, fly ash, slag, and concrete admixture procurements.
  • Provide supervisory direction of craft workers via the general foreman and foreman, managing the performance of productivity, safety, quality and schedule adherence
  • Consider, evaluate, and recommend cost alternatives regarding various materials and batch plant operations.
  • Understand market conditions of redi-mix related materials and emerging related technologies.
  • Liaison between field engineering and craft to ensure compliance of construction drawings and specifications.
  • Coordinate and interface effectively with Kiewit superintendents and subcontractors, as well as other Kiewit staff personnel and leadership to ensure smooth workflow and schedule adherence.  
  • Resolve employee conflicts, grievances, and scheduling difficulties, informing project and corporate management as appropriate.
  • Assist in schedule planning, determining craft labor levels, material quantities, and equipment requirements.
  • Ensure concrete supply demand are met without interruption.
  • Manage supplier contract administration (subcontractor/field management meeting for communication.)
  • Initiate and attend supplementary and regular meetings with end users and suppliers for problem resolution and planning.
  • Oversee and approve the monthly job cost and forecast updates.
  • Track cost and quantities accurately.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years’ work experience in the construction industry, with at least 3+ years in a supervisory role overseeing concrete redi-mix batching operations, material procurements and mixer truck drivers.
  • Previous knowledge/experience in heavy civil construction setting required.
  • Advanced knowledge of various construction disciplines, batch plant maintenance, safety regulations, quality control specifications and procedures, scheduling, cost control, engineering drawings and DOT requirements. 
  • Demonstrated ability to efficiently supervise and evaluate craft performance.
  • Highly motivated, with a demonstrated passion for excellence and taking initiative. 
  • Strong work ethic, willing to do what it takes to get the job done right the first time. 
  • Demonstrated commitment to ethics and integrity. 
  • Passion for safety, with the ability to help us ensure that nobody gets hurt. 
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.  
  • Team player with the ability to work independently to meet deadlines, goals and objectives.
