Position Overview

Kiewit has a new opportunity for a Quality Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for the successful implementation of field quality inspection and testing plans, procedures and documentation on a major transportation project in the Santa Clara area. 

District Overview

Kiewit’s Northern California District is one of Kiewit’s leading infrastructure districts specializing in various types of work in the heavy civil, power, transportation, and water resource markets. Although most of our work is regionally based in Northern California, we also pursue various projects across the west coast.  

Location

This position will be based at our project site in Santa Clara, CA.

Responsibilities

  • Have comprehensive knowledge of the Project’s Quality Management System, Work Instructions, and Inspection Procedures.
  • Promote and maintain effective communication and relations with project management teams, front line supervision, and the engineer/client.
  • Perform accurate arithmetic operations and understand plans and specifications, visualizing 2D drawings in 3D.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of the contract, plans, specifications, applicable codes, and jurisdictional requirements.
  • Assist in developing project Inspection and Test Plans and procedures, and conduct quality risk evaluations.
  • Mentor and coach quality personnel, hire, train, and supervise project quality inspection staff.
  • Provide training on inspection and testing techniques, and participate in Corporate and District Training initiatives.
  • Coordinate inspection personnel staffing needs and manage the implementation of the project Inspection and Test Plan.
  • Plan and perform field inspections and tests, ensuring timely interpretation of results to minimize impacts.
  • Report and document non-conformances, manage third-party testing and authorized inspection agencies, and ensure welder certifications are current.
  • Examine field conditions, identify problems, and take corrective actions as needed.
  • Understand and implement safety procedures, including lockout/tagout, and perform all other job-related duties as requested.

Qualifications

  • The Ideal candidate should have 5-10 years of experience as a quality professional in the construction industry.
  • Strong communication skills, emotional intelligence, and the ability to multi-task, prioritize, and speak publicly are essential.
  • Experience managing QC inspectors by balancing schedules and priorities, providing feedback, and handling difficult performance conversations.
  • Experience in managing 3rd Party testing companies, including budget planning, scheduling, and interpreting test results, is required.
  • A construction background in concrete (including mass concrete), civil backfill and excavation, welding, with bonus points for slurry wall and instrumentation experience, is also important.
  • Ability to lift and carry items over 50 pounds; navigate confined, cluttered, and uneven areas.
  • Ability to climb and balance on steel structures, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds with full range of motion and flexibility.

Base Compensation: $165,000 - $180,000 (This includes the base salary and cost of living adjustment for the area)
