Position Overview

Located on one of Kiewit’s project sites, the Quality Engineer (QE) is responsible for the development, implementation and management of a site specific quality plan and all other quality related functions necessary to deliver the project fully compliant with all required contract documentation.  The QE is a member of the overall project leadership team, and therefore must be able to work with minimal supervision, interact professionally with the project team and client personnel, have excellent written / verbal communication and conflict resolution skills, manage a diversified workload and challenging situation efficiently and effectively, have a Continuous Improvement (CI) mentality, and takes the lead role on managing quality on the project.

District Overview

Kiewit’s Southern California District is one of Kiewit’s leading infrastructure districts specializing in heavy civil projects that include earth moving, water/wastewater, transportation, roadways, and power projects. Most of our work is concentrated in the Southern California region.

Location

The project is initially in the greater San Diego area. Location may vary moving forward and mst be open to working anywhere in the Southern California Region, assignment is determined by business need and skillset. 

Kiewit’s Southern California District is based out of the Santa Fe Springs, CA office and supports projects throughout the Southern California region, building out project/construction schedules for all types of infrastructure work across the region.

Responsibilities

  • Perform testing on soils, asphalt, and concrete for material properties for conformance to requirements.
  • Perform testing and inspection on electrical components
  • Support team members in their roles as a program focal point for quality assurance, acting as a liaison with other functional departments.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of the project scope and schedule as they relate to his/her specific assignment.
  • Examine/inspect field conditions and identify problems.
  • Assist with identifying and reporting rework and non-conforming issue.

Qualifications

  • Self-starter with exceptional organization and interpersonal skills
  • Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) Certification is required 
  • Working knowledge of the specific trade of discipline (i.e. civil, structural, electrical) as assigned, with associated special processes, inspection, and testing techniques
  • Working knowledge of construction industry
  • Must have testing certifications OR have had in the past, testing certifications issued from ACI, WAQTC, LABCAT, PCI, NEC, or NICET and proficiency in CDOT Tests Methods.  Equivalent certifications from other states welcome.
  • Ability to gain additional certifications to support project testing and inspection
  • Capability to work extended construction hours during high seasons and potential night shifts.

Base Compensation: $94,000/yr - $98,000/yr

(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
