Position Overview

The goal of the KIE design-build management group is to employ experienced rail systems professionals to develop standards, lead engineering teams, offer training and provide support to the districts and projects on design-build work so that a successful outcome in regard to scheduling and financial performance can be achieved. The Rail Systems Requirements Manager will lead successful systems integration / systems engineering requirements activities, and coordinate with other engineers at peer and junior to mid / senior level. The position is expected to operate with minimum supervision, will be integrated into a team of engineers or the third-party engineering contractors, and to set the stage and manage all requirements activities from the bid phase through delivery of the project.

Location

This position is based at our Lone Tree, CO office with opportunity for remote work.

Responsibilities

Serve as the Rail Systems Requirements Manager in the conceptual, preliminary, and final design for complex rail transit projects. Responsibilities include:

  • Work with a team in providing systems engineering & integration requirements responsibilities and oversight for rail transit projects involving Ultra- Wide Band (UWB), traction power, signaling and train control equipment, third rail and/or OCS poles, messenger and contact wire runs, installation of traction power substation and signal buildings, public address equipment, voice and data communication, telephones, fiber optic, CCTV, security alarm, fire detection and suppression, computer systems, and systems integration testing and startup activities.
  • Responsible for managing all requirement management activities using either Helix ALM or IBM Doors Suite of tools
  • Deployment and application of Kiewit standard processes and tools
  • Requirement Management tool deployment according to project / customer requirements
  • Training and support on process and tools for the project team
  • Owner of the Requirements Management Plan and Requirements Traceability Matrix demonstrating the solution compliancy to contract requirements through requirement traceability through all phases of the project life cycle
  • Working with the configuration and change management personnel at the project level
  • Establish and maintain a systematic, documented, comprehensive, and KPI’s through the projects

Understanding of construction means and methods, that includes familiarity with rail transit industry standards, practices, and regulations is required.

Experience in design and/or construction management of rail transit systems is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in construction engineering, construction management or a related degree or comparable work experience.
  • 5+ years' experience in all aspects of managing commercial construction projects with a proven track record of successful outcomes.
  • Minimum 8+ years of progressive work and project experience and thorough understanding of the following, but not limited to;
    • Rail & Transit system design, construction, testing and commissioning
    • Understanding and experience in Requirements Management Principles and processes
    • Demonstrable understanding of the Configuration and Change Management Principles
    • Knowledgeable in railway standards such as AREMA, MIL-STD, IEEE and EN
    • Demonstrable knowledge, understanding and use in HELIX ALM, DOORS or similar Requirement Management Tools
    • Engineering Concepts, including Design, Verification & Validation, and System
    • Basic to intermediate understanding of other subsystems such as communications, supervisory control/ SCADA, traction power, tunnel ventilation, on-board, and auxiliary electrical systems
  • Rail & Transit project experience with Los Angeles Metro and/or New York Metro market is a PLUS, but not neccessary.
  • Membership with active participation to professional organizations such as AREMA or APTA is desirable.
  • Work independently as well as part of a team

  • Strong organization/time management skills
