Position Overview

We are upgrading, restarting and building new Power plants across the US and are expanding our Commissioning teams around the country.  We are looking for an experienced Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) Commissioning/start-up lead with Power generation experience, to direct, oversee and coordinate the daily activities of start up with our engineers and construction craft.  In this role, you will report directly to the Commissioning Manager and will promote and provide leadership for safety and quality at assigned project sites, and have direct responsibility to ensure all Instrumentation and controls systems for balance of plant systems and components meet safety and contractual requirements at start up.  Our Commissioning Leads can live anywhere but will be assigned to projects around the continental US, where the durations could be 10-12 months.  We are hiring for a career in Commissioning with our Power Generation team, not just a project, so if you are looking for a long term, stable career, with excellent benefits, and top pay, we want to talk with you!

District Overview

Our rapidly growing Power district, which includes structural, civil, piping, mechanical, process, process safety, electrical, instrument and control disciplines, is a multi-faceted division of Kiewit with best-in-class technical expertise focused on the EPC delivery model for power facilities. We offer a variety of engineering services, including owner's engineering, project development, detailed engineering and design, construction management and plant services. Location

In this role you will be assigned to be on site for commissioning of Power plant projects for durations of 10-12 months at project locations in different states, within the Continental US.   

Responsibilities

Oversee plant I&C activities during start up and commissioning phases, ensuring all safety procedures, and contractual SOP's are followed and will be accountable to the Site Commissioning Manager.  Elevate issues to the CM in a timely manner and develop action plans and assign tasks to address issues.
Review and Approve all Work Authorizations and develop boundary locking plan with Authorized Requested. 
Assist Tagging Authority in LOTOs as a Lead I&C in walking down boundaries and perform all the safety checks; Maintain jumper log/Temporary Modification list. 
Assist the Commissioning Manager with ordering and maintaining Spare Parts and Consumable list for the discipline.
Ensure project team has the calibrated testing tools and equipment necessary throughout the commissioning period. 
Develop required procedures and train accordingly for startup activities and the plans to track the checkout for all instrumentation.
Verify completion of commissioning packages. 
Coordinate completing and recording all instrument calibration and loop check-out sheets. 
Work with DCS Lead in updating Input/Output (I/O) Database. 
Perform all the necessary checkout for Specialized Instrumentation such as Steam and Water Sample System, Continuous Emission Monitoring System (CEMS) and Chromatograph. Order the necessary gases, reagents and consumables for those systems.
Review engineering system descriptions for functionality. 
Directly supervise construction and contractor craft during commissioning phase.  Oversee and/or perform all instrument calibrations and instrument control-loop checkouts, resolve instrumentation problems. 
Maintain updated Red-Line/As-Built drawings and documentation, ensuring that all modifications documented are tracked through completion both in the field and on all records.
Assist other leads in performing check-out and commissioning of systems.  Provide oversight to TFA support. 
Ensure documentation of lessons learned throughout commissioning process.
Read and adhere to Startup Administration Manual.

Qualifications

  • An Associate's degree in Electrical Technology or a related field, or equivalent job-related experience
  • Minimum of Ten years of experience working as a lead or senior position in electrical commissioning/startup of power plants
  • Expertise in the installation, testing, operation, repair, and maintenance of industrial process electrical devices and power distribution systems
  • Knowledge of electrical principles and controls methods and practice
  • Ability to supervise and train others in testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and operating and maintaining electrical equipment and power distribution systems
  • Ability to create and implement a project schedule to complete assigned daily work and achieve commissioning goals
  • Experience in Electrical Technology, specifically related to commissioning of power plants

Base Compensation: $140,000 - $175,000

(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
