Position Overview

We are upgrading, restarting and building new Power plants across the US and are expanding our Commissioning teams around the country.  We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Commissioning lead with Power generation experience, to direct, oversee and coordinate the daily activities of start up with our Mechanical engineers and construction craft.  The Commissioning Mechanical Lead will report directly to the Commissioning Manager and will promote and provide leadership for safety and quality at assigned project sites, and have direct responsibility to ensure all mechanical components and systems integrity meet contractual requirements at start up.  Our Commissioning Leads can live anywhere but will be assigned to projects around the continental US, where the durations could be 10-12 months.  We are hiring for a career in Commissioning with our Power Generation team, not just a project, so if you are looking for a long term, stable career, with excellent benefits, and top pay, we want to talk with you!

District Overview

Our rapidly growing Power district, which includes structural, civil, piping, mechanical, process, process safety, electrical, instrument and control disciplines, is a multi-faceted division of Kiewit with best-in-class technical expertise focused on the EPC delivery model for power facilities. We offer a variety of engineering services, including owner's engineering, project development, detailed engineering and design, construction management and plant services. Location

In this role you will be assigned to be on site for commissioning of Power plant projects for durations of 10-12 months at project locations in different states, within the Continental US. 

Responsibilities

  • Travel and live at project sites for assigned duration
  • Lead start up and commissioning phases for Power Plants, for all mechanical equipment and systems, providing oversite to the team for SOPs, processes, and safety.  Tasks include mechanical equipment and pump initial and pre-operational check-outs, system line flushes, verification of equipment alignments, pump runs vibration analysis.
  • Assume direct responsibility of all mechanical components and systems integrity for completion of contractual requirements with the highest degree of safety and quality. 
  • Direct and coordinate the daily activities of field mechanical techs and construction craft. Hold and/or attend daily safety meetings.
  • Lead and insist on strict adherence to lockout/tagout procedures (LOTO) and policies.
  • Daily spot check Job Hazard Analysis, (JHA) for each assigned crew.
  • Develop scoped packages and necessary forms for completion and turnover package.
  • Develop standard operating work procedures and packages for component and system testing.
  • Read and adhere to Startup Administration Manual, contractual requirements for completion, including permitting and EPA requirements. Review engineering descriptions for functionality, coordinate changes with engineering team. Perform drawing reviews for accuracy.
  • Maintain all drawings and databases to ensure accurate “As-Built” information and drawings.
  • Promote and insist on good housekeeping in the office and on the project site.
  • Ensure spare parts and consumables necessary for the proper operations of each assigned system are available.
  • Coordinate initial system flushing, functional testing and operation of plant systems.
  • Troubleshoot and isolate system problems including correcting or suggesting resolutions and providing a written report of the results.
  • Track progress of assigned systems and provide startup manager with a timely report of progress and activities.
  • Perform construction process assessments during system walk-downs and identify exceptions and deficiencies.
  • Perform commissioning and testing of individual components, systems, and station as a complete integrated unit to meet all contractual obligations.

 

Qualifications

  • An associate degree in the mechanical technology-related field or equivalent job-related experience
  • Ten years of experience working in mechanical commissioning in power industry as a Commissioning Lead
  • Experience in the required flushing, cleaning of mechanical piping systems.
  • Expertise in the installation, testing, operation, repair, and maintenance of industrial processes. 
  • Knowledge of electrical principles and controls methods and practice, and advanced proficieincy in industry codes and standards relevant to mechanical equipment
  • Ability to supervise and train others in testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and operating and maintaining mechanical equipment related to the power industry.
  • Ability to create and implement a project schedule to complete assigned daily work and achieve commissioning goals.
  • Experience in Mechanical Technology, specifically related to commissioning of power plants.

Base Compensation: $140,000 - $175,000

(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
