Position Overview
Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering (KIE) has an opening for a dynamic Tunnel Ventilation Engineer Intern in our growing Rail Transit Systems Group. You will be part of our rapidly growing Infrastructure Design Department, which includes structural, geotechnical, civil, drainage, roadway, rail, and materials disciplines, is a multi-faceted and leading-edge division of Kiewit with best-in-class technical expertise focused on the design-build delivery of infrastructure projects.
District Overview
Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering's Design-Build team is driving clients to turn to Kiewit during all stages of design-build projects. Through our integrated design and construction approach, our multi-disciplinary team works together to improve schedule, control costs, and minimize risk. Our construction-focused engineers work collaboratively with our estimators and builders to design solutions that are innovative, constructible, and designed with a focus on safety. Clients benefit from the proven processes and tools used by Kiewit to minimize project risk. We are an in-house resource that supports projects throughout the company. Location
This position will be based out of our Raleigh, NC office.
Responsibilities
- Review/preparation of design criteria documents, technical reports, calculations, drawings and specifications, aerodynamic and thermodynamic analysis, heating and cooling load calculations, loss calculations.
- Providing support during design and construction activities.
- Project assignments may include, although not be limited to, vehicular or rail tunnels, transportation centers, transit maintenance facilities, pump stations, bridges, airports, industrial facilities, oil & gas process facilities.
- Supporting business development and proposal efforts as required.
- Provides specialized technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertise.
- Participates in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables.
- Assist in the commissioning of fire protection/life safety systems in commercial, institutional, and industrial facilities.
- Prepare technical reports and documentation of activity for the client and project management.
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Mechanical engineering or related fields
- GPA above a 3.0 preferred
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word. The individual will develop familiarity with and learn to use the electrical department design software tools
- Highly motivated, with a demonstrated passion for excellence and taking initiative

- Ability to work full-time during the summer (approximately May-August)
