Position Overview

Our Southeast district is seeking a mid-level structural design engineer with experience doing temporary structures design and verification. Responsibilities include initial concept design development, geotechnical assessment, structural calculations, and cost/risk mitigation. Candidate shall have experience in engineering plan production and be technically familiar with current technical tools/programs/software and structural codes. This team assists in designing temporary works for projects, including - bridge demolition, coffer dam design, critical crane lifts, girder erection, hoisting and jacking, deep foundations and dewatering, excavation support, marine engineering, MSE wall design, pile drive analysis, formwork/falsework design, temporary bridge & trestle, TSCD budget estimate support, TSCD surface design, and onsite engineering support.

District Overview

Kiewit's Southeast District is one of Kiewit's leading infrastructure districts specializing in heavy civil, transportation, and water resource markets. Projects you could be working on could include building bridges, airports, mass transit systems, canals, dams, pump stations or tunnels. Although most of our work is regionally based in the southeast region of the United States, we also pursue various projects stretching across the east coast. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about infrastructure and committed to the construction industry as opposed to design.

Responsibilities

•    Design of temporary structures including formwork, falsework, support of excavation systems, temporary bridges, and other features relating to civil construction operations
•    Perform calculations and structural designs. Ensure the accuracy of the design drawings. Produce cost-effective solutions with quantity takeoffs 
•    Knowledge and ability to analyze and design according to codes, design criteria, and structural theories
•    Capable of transferring structural design and ideas to contract drawings. Help identify design risks and assist with risk mitigation 
•    Sign and Seal designs as required by Clients and Kiewit TSCD policy 
•    Other responsibilities could include heavy lift planning, evaluation of existing structures for construction loads, erection procedures, or planned sequences related to our construction operations
 

Qualifications

•    Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering with Minimum 5 years of construction or civil engineering experience
•    Preferred 10+ years of industry experience
•    Professional Engineer license required – preferred states FL, GA, AL, MS, NC, SC, VA, MD 
•    Strong all-around academic knowledge of structural engineering
•    Prior relevant experience performing temporary construction design 
•    Experience in engineering design software including AutoCAD, Bluebeam, MathCAD, Navisworks
•    Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a multi-team environment
