District Overview
Eastern Canada District's projects include highways, bridges, mass transit, mine site development & open pit operations, hydroelectric powerhouses, wind-power plants, dams & industrial. The serve the construction and mining industries and operates in Eastern Canada.
Location
This position is located in Ottawa. We have field offices in both the Napean and Orleans areas and candidates must be able to work in both locations
Responsibilities
• Supervision of one or two Buildings general contractor doing the construction of multiple buildings part of a Mega Project sector. (The supervised portion of the project represents a volume of over 50 M$+)
• Supervision of one or two Buildings General Contractors working on multiple buildings spread across 5 km
• Ensuring subcontractor compliance of safety, quality control and environmental programs and in the execution of temporary constructions and measures.
• Interfacing and meeting with Project Client, professional Engineering Firm and Architect to manage project issues while maintaining positive working relationships
• Initiate and attend regular meetings with client for problem resolution and planning
• Coordination of Engineering services & support during construction
• Monitor and manage the project budget, minimizing costs while upholding the highest quality
• Assist with schedule development, maintenance and monitoring
• Assist in planning and coordination of buildings subcontractor site setup and logistics
• Review, approve and monitor subcontractor execution procedures and processes
• Coordination and interfacing with other sectors and disciplines of a Mega Project
• Assuring contract compliance and administration
• Daily, weekly and monthly tracking of subcontractor schedule, progress, quantities and costs
• Review subcontractor progress documentation, reports and invoicing
• Manage contract administration (subcontractor / field management) including back charges and change orders
• Maintain a thorough daily report that accurately tracks site progress, events, inspections and other relevant information
Qualifications
• 5 to 10 years' experience in all aspects of managing commercial or buildings design-build construction projects of similar size with 3-5+ years being in a Leadership / Superintendent position with a proven track record of successful outcomes.
• Preferable Experience working on the construction of Track / Light Rail or buildings construction projects as part of large-scale design-build projects
• Preferable Experience working on the construction of design-build mega projects
• Undergraduate degree in construction engineering, construction management or a related degree or comparable work experience.
• Strong knowledge of safety legislation and regulations; ability to enforce safety on site
• Ability to understand project scheduling and cost control, and to read and understand project owner specifications and engineering drawings
• Subcontractor management, tracking and negotiation experience
• Strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills
• Work independently as well as part of a team
• Strong work ethic - willing to do what it takes to get the job done
• Good attention to detail with the ability to recognize discrepancies
• Effective English oral and written communication skills (in addition to English, French is a plus)
• Strong knowledge of work processes and procedures; ability to enforce quality work on site
• Strong organization/time management skills
