As a Project Electrical/Mechanical Manager, you will be responsible for job site management and oversee the administrative and technical aspects of construction projects.

District Overview

Eastern Canada District's projects include highways, bridges, mass transit, mine site development & open pit operations, hydroelectric powerhouses, wind-power plants, dams & industrial. They serve the construction and mining industries and operate in Eastern Canada. 
 

Location

This position is for the Confederation Line project in Ottawa.

Responsibilities

•    Directs and supervises the work of project administration, project superintendents, and engineers to establish operational priorities and maintain effective relationships with owners, designers, subcontractors, etc.
•    Responsible for ensuring the project meets or exceeds its financial objectives, by overseeing and monitoring each stage of the development.
•    Coordinates daily/weekly meetings with all the area superintendents, project engineers to develop means and methods, schedule contracting needs and long lead delivery times.
•    Ensures ESA, HOL, Building Codes and Project Agreement requirements are adhered to. Resolve conflicting requirements.  
•    Manage all field operations and work sequence in conjunction with the Project Manager.
•    Review project estimate or plan to determine estimated job cost, procedures for accomplishing project, staffing requirements, and allotment of available resources to various phases of project.
•    Oversee and approve the monthly job cost updates, quarterly cash flow projections and project time schedules to avoid/mitigate construction delays. Also, review, approve and negotiate change orders.
•    Anticipate project needs with sufficient lead-time to avoid delay of production Establishes work plan and staffing for each phase of project, work closely with Project Manager and HR team to manage relationship with staff and craft. 
•    Form and lead an effective project management team, define and delegate management responsibilities and set goals and expectations.
•    Resolve any unexpected technical difficulties, and other problems that may arise.
•    Be an effective leader, communicate with department leads regarding work scopes.
•    Ensure project superintendents understand and execute the work as required.
•    Ensure safety, quality and production is maintained.
•    Responsible for project closeout. Secure loose ends by finishing paperwork, obtaining retainages, supporting supervisors and expediting claims.

 

Qualifications

•    10+ years' experience in electrical/mechanical construction operation
•    Undergraduate degree in electrical, mechanical, industrial or civil engineering, construction management or a related degree or comparable work experience. 
•    Strong knowledge of safety legislation and regulations; ability to enforce safety on site 
•    Ability to understand project scheduling and cost control, and to read and understand project owner specifications and engineering drawings 
•    Ability to work with and manage subcontractors
•    Strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills 
•    Good attention to detail with the ability to recognize discrepancies

Base Compensation: $140,982 - $216,619 
(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
