Kiewit employs 30,000 employees and has been in business for 136 years.  We are consistently rated by Forbes as a top place to work, and were recently named by ENR as #1 in the top 200 Design/Build contractors in North America.   We have a strong Risk Management team with dedicated individuals that are passionate about what they do, know how to solve problems and are inspired to protect our greatest assets - our people!   We are hiring a Workers Compensation Claims Manager in our Risk Management and Insurance Department.  In this role, you will manage the resolution of workers’ compensation claims arising out of Kiewit’s construction operations.  This is an integral role for our 7 market areas which includes Transportation, Power, Oil and Gas/Petrochemical, Industrial, Mining, Water/Wastewater and Building Construction.  You will also support department, project and District personnel with claims data management and analysis, providing periodic reports to various internal and external stakeholders.  You’ll typically have a wide-ranging division of responsibilities, which include interactions with other Kiewit Home Office departments, and others in the profession including insurance carriers, brokers, and other professional organizations.

Location

This position can be based out of one of Kiewits major office locations - either in Omaha Nebraska, Lenexa Kansas or Houston Texas.  

Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Administer and oversee workers’ compensation claims throughout the Company
  • Interface with District operational personnel to manage and resolve outstanding claims
  • Provide claim reserve analysis and recommendations

 

Major Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the Company’s reporting, handling and settlement of workers’ compensation insurance claims
  • Interface with Kiewit’s third-party claims administrator and Risk Management Information System (RMIS) provider
  • Serve as key contact for District Safety Managers and Third-Party Administrator adjusters
  • Participate in the training and education programs presented by the Department
  • Provide District claim file reviews as needed
  • Maintain and update electronic claim files
  • Coordinate with Risk Management Specialist to provide loss reports and payroll reports as necessary
  • Interface with Accounting to facilitate quarterly accounting reserves

Qualifications

  • BS/BA Undergraduate Degree  
  • Minimum five years of multi-state workers’ compensation insurance claims handling experience
  • Knowledge of state workers’ compensation laws, rules, regulations, and statutes in multiple jurisdictions and familiarity with U.S.L.&H. and Jones Act claims
  • Experience performing workers compensation claims management in construction industry preferred
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to work independently and communicate risks or potential problems to manager
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, etc.
