Staff Accountant - Kiewit Business Services

Position Overview

The Staff Accountant position is part of the Kiewit Business Services Accounts Payable department within the Financial Services group. The position is responsible for non-resident withholding reporting for various tax authorities. In addition, this position reconciles various general ledger accounts associated with NRWH and ensures that internal customers and external vendors are receiving the best possible customer service from this department.

District Overview

Kiewit Business Services (KBS) is a cross-functional shared service organization that provides the business units with customer-specific services focused on cost and business value.   Our services include non-core, yet essential, functions of our businesses including accounts payable, accounts receivable, change control, human capital management, payroll, project initiation, compliance and continuous improvement.

Location

This position is based out of our Kiewit Business Center at 12720 I Street. This is a shared service center in a professional office setting. 

Responsibilities

  • Review invoices for non-resident withholding tax requirements
  • Research tax regulations and apply the appropriate tax
  • File the required tax returns to the various tax authorities for the non-resident withholding
  • Apply accounting knowledge and experience to perform reconciliations and post general ledger entries
  • Update/monitor the AP system with correct tax codes
  • Act as a support unit to Kiewit field personnel, vendors, and the tax authority for timely and accurate communication of the reporting requirements and amounts withheld
  • Coordinate with the training of field personnel and KBS Processors
  • Identify and communicate opportunities for process improvement; collaborate with internal and external partners to increase efficiencies in the department
  • Provide the highest level of customer service to internal and external customers; understand Kiewit’s core business and promote a sense of urgency toward business critical issues

  • Perform other job related tasks as needed or assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of Accounting experience
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Working knowledge of computers and Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to recognize discrepancies
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; clearly conveys messages and ideas, gains understanding; generates interest and holds attention, listens and is open to the ideas of others
  • Demonstrated pattern of success in meeting quality objectives
  • Excellent organizational skills; ability to develop specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize and accomplish daily work and projects
  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills; ability to use logic and reasoning to analyze and identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
  • Highly motivated and self-directed; initiative and a sense of urgency to get things done
  • Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy with minimal supervision; working independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to manage a fluctuating, high volume workload

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior Tax and SAP experience
  • Understanding of tax regulations
  • Understanding of foreign exchange calculations
