Position Overview
This newly created role supports Kiewit’s commitment to delivering a best-in-class employee experience through technology, innovation, and process excellence. As part of the Benefits and Leave Operations team within Kiewit’s 1HR organization, the Senior Benefits Advisor will play a key role in implementing, optimizing, and overseeing the day-to-day operations of Kiewit’s new Benefits Administration system — ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and a seamless experience for employees.
Kiewit is hiring a next-generation benefits role that bridges people, process, and technology. This position serves as the link between benefits operations and the systems that support them, driving automation, improving data accuracy, and enhancing how employees experience their benefits.
By combining technology, compliance, and collaboration, the Senior Benefits Specialist will help make benefits simpler, smarter, and more impactful for every employee. You’ll work cross-functionally to deliver meaningful change, modernize operations, and strengthen Kiewit’s commitment to supporting moments that matter.

Responsibilities
• Assist with the implementation and ongoing oversight of Kiewit’s new Benefits Administration system.
• Identify opportunities to streamline processes and elevate the employee experience.
• Collaborate with brokers, carriers, and internal stakeholders on benefit renewals, plan design improvements, and vendor performance reviews.
• Analyze benefits data and market insights to recommend enhancements that improve competitiveness, efficiency, and compliance.
• Through the new Benefits Administration system, design an enhanced U.S. Open Enrollment, including planning, communications, testing, and vendor coordination.
• Develop and deliver employee communications and education materials to promote understanding of benefit options.
• Ensure compliance with applicable laws and reporting requirements (5500s, ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, nondiscrimination testing).
• Continuously identify and implement opportunities to automate workflows, enhance data accuracy, and improve system connectivity.
• Collaborate within the Benefits and Leave Operations team to find ways to embed benefits during employees leave of absences and elevate their experience.
• Be willing to support the Leave Administration functions as needed.
• Participate in benefits systems-related work, including configuration updates, testing, automation enhancements, and potential future implementations.
Qualifications
• 5+ years of experience in benefits administration or related HR operations (health, welfare, retirement).
• Experience in the benefits broker, consulting, or insurance industry a plus.
• Experience with Benefits Administration systems.
• Familiarity with SAP or similar enterprise systems required.
• Ownership mindset — proactive, accountable, and motivated to improve outcomes, not just manage tasks.
• Curiosity and critical-thinking — enjoys learning how things work and seeking opportunities to optimize them.
• Strong relationship-building skills, able to collaborate effectively across all levels and functions of the organization and externally, i.e., payroll, HR and vendor teams.
• Deep understanding of benefit programs, leave administration, and compliance requirements.
• Excellent communication and data analysis skills; able to explain complex topics clearly to various audiences
