Position Overview
Kiewit is seeking a highly skilled professional and strategic Senior Data Manager to take a leadership role in our emerging Foundational Data Management services. This position will be pivotal in advancing the maturity of Kiewit’s data ecosystem and building scalable services that enable consistent, trusted, and well-governed data across all domains.
You will play a critical role in establishing and scaling foundational capabilities including metadata management, enterprise data cataloging, data lineage, data quality, and data governance. You will partner closely with data strategy and data architecture leadership, domain-aligned data managers, IT, and business stakeholders to design and implement a modern data management foundation that unlocks enterprise value. This role requires someone who thrives in complexity, can drive clarity and influence without authority, and can balance hands-on execution with long-term vision. This is a high-visibility, high impact role with direct exposure to senior leadership. This role offers a clear path for professional development, eventually evolving into a deputy position to the Data Architecture Director.

This position is based out of Omaha, NE or Lenexa, KS.
Responsibilities
Strategy and Leadership
- Develop and maintain a strategy for foundational data management services aligned with enterprise goals and industry best practices.
- Advise data leaders, architects, and business stakeholders on enterprise data management capabilities.
- Define, measure, and communicate progress through roadmaps and KPIs.
Core Data Management Services
- Oversee the delivery and evaluation of key foundational data services: Data Governance, Metadata Management and Cataloging, Data Lineage and Impact Analysis, Master Data Management Standards, Data Quality Monitoring and Remediation, and Foundational Data Management Principles.
- Partner with data and platform teams to design scalable services for multiple data domains.
Execution and Change Management
- Drive adoption of data governance and quality practices across teams.
- Lead pilots and proof-of-concepts for metadata management tooling and workflows.
- Translate and simplify complex concepts for adoption and business support.
- Promote data stewardship and literacy.
Collaboration and Influence
- Collaborate with foundational data management team, domain managers, business leaders, and engineering teams to identify gaps and opportunities.
- Ensure alignment between foundational services and technical implementation.
- Build coalitions and momentum across diverse teams.
People Leadership
- Mentor and oversee a small, yet rapidly growing team of data management specialists.
- Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture focused on execution, continuous improvement, and business impact.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in data science, information systems, computer science, or related field preferred.
- 8–12 years of progressive experience in data management roles within large organizations in North America (ideally $5B+ in revenue).
- Proven success in implementing data governance, data quality, metadata, or MDM programs.
- Experience working in or closely with data architecture teams and enterprise IT.
- Strong understanding of modern data stack components (data lakes, catalogs, lineage tools, ETL pipelines, reporting and analytic technologies, etc.).
- Experience with tools like Collibra, Alation, Informatica, Atlan, or similar is preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with executive presence.
- Adept at balancing strategic vision with hands-on execution.
- Experience in industries like construction, engineering, energy, or manufacturing is a plus.
- Familiarity with ERP systems such as SAP is advantageous. #LI-MD1
