Position Overview

Kiewit is looking to enhance the utilization of its fully integrated SmartPlant Engineering and Design environment through advanced automation. This position will work with other KTG/DTS team members, Engineering and Design Departments, and Engineering Management to identify opportunities to apply automation to increase efficiency and quality through the application of standards and repeatable work processes.   Duties include but are not limited to:

This position will be based out of our Kiewit Business Center in Houston, TX 77079.


  • Close coordination with Kiewit SmartPlant 2D/3D Administrators and Engineering and Design departments to identify opportunities for automation in current work processes to improve quality and efficiency
  • Develop Return on Investment (ROI) calculations for identified automation opportunities to justify automation development costs
  • Create and deliver presentations for Executive and Engineering Management and Engineers and Designers to outline the benefits, development plan and implementation plan for automation proposals
  • Facilitate the implementation and deployment of developed automation into discipline standard work processes to ensure successful utilization upon project deployment
  • Track results of automation deployment to ensure alignment with expected ROI and identify opportunities for continuous improvement
  • Work with Project Information and Data Management (PIDM) department to optimize data creation in the Engineering and Design software to facilitate use by internal and external clients


  • Relevant engineering and/or construction industry execution experience using SmartPlant 2D/3D
  • 5 years of experience in SmartPlant 2D/3D administration
  • Minimum of BS in relevant Engineering Discipline (Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil)
  • Extensive knowledge of the SmartPlant 2D/3D database schema
  • Experience executing SmartPlant projects in a fully integrated environment
  • Experience successfully developing and deploying SmartPlant-centric data driven work processes
  • Experience preparing and delivering presentations tailored to all levels of the Engineering Organization (Executive Management, Engineering Management, Engineers and Designers)
  • Fast learner with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Highly motivated and self-directed with strong communication skills
  • Conceptual thinker and able to work with complex systems
