Construction Faculty Scholar - Underground District - Summer 2020

Position Overview

We pride ourselves on delivering quality projects on-time or ahead of schedule, and are known for our expertise in aggressively managing and building major construction projects with demanding schedules and complex work components. The objective of the Kiewit Scholars Program is to enrich the classroom experience of construction and engineering students by providing opportunities for selected faculty members to gain relevant construction experience by working with Kiewit.  Participating in this program is an investment in the future of the construction industry, because current professional experience will enable the Faculty Scholar to be more effective in the classroom by being able to share recent and relevant work experiences.   Each educator will spend their Scholar Period on site of a construction project or within a Kiewit design or support function District office with the intent of gaining relevant operations experience to bring back to their students. All the educators are supported by the Kiewit University Relations Program and the Placement District.

The Kiewit Foundations Co. self performs complex geotechnical projects across North America. We deliver creative, cost-efficient solutions that are responsive to each project’s specific site conditions. We utilize value engineering and constructability reviews, and our depth of expertise to offer constructible solutions that optimize budget and schedule. We perform these operations with our fleet of specialty equipment and the management resources of one of the top builders in the country. We are looking for hands-on, engineers excited to be both in the field and office supporting project and estimating work.

Kiewit Underground conducts its operations primarily through Kiewit Infrastructure Company, a subsidiary of Kiewit Corporation. Headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska, we construct both deep underground and foundation projects across the U.S. and Canada related to transportation, water/wastewater, power, mining, and telecommunications to name a few. These projects are happening in large cities and small towns, so you have a chance to experience it all!

Responsibilities

Be responsible for demonstrating the outcomes, professional skills and objectives of the scholar experience. Create a work plan that outlines the goals, objectives, and timelines of the scholar experience.Execute agreed upon workplan to the best of your abilities with the guidance of a project manager. Participate in bi-weekly check-in calls with your fellow faculty scholars. Complete a mid and post experience evaluation to assess the impact of the experience on your learning. Create 2 learning modules based on the knowledge gained from the experience. These modules will be shared with faculty partners via the Professor’s Portal.
