Position Overview
Reporting to Kiewit’s Group General Counsel – Strategic Resolutions, the Assistant General Counsel will be responsible for managing to resolution major commercial litigation, evaluating and developing claims utilizing Kiewit’s proprietary method, managing to resolution government investigations, and participating as a leader in the evaluation and resolution of other actual or potential disputes. The complexity of the work is unique and significant. Matters involve significant monetary amounts in dispute arising out of some of the largest high-profile construction projects being constructed in North America today.

District Overview
Kiewit provides a diverse range of shared service functions to assist our districts in their endeavors to pursue, win and successfully execute projects. Our shared services encompass Business Management, Kiewit Supply Network, Kiewit Technology Group, HR Operations, Safety, Environmental, Equipment, Quality, Legal, Compliance and more.
Location
Omaha, NE is the primary location for this role. We are willing to consider candidates in other office areas including: Kansas City, KS (Lenexa Office) or Houston, TX (The Woodlands or Energy Corridor Offices). This is an in office opportunity.
Responsibilities
- Perform initial case assessment and perform detailed review of relevant contractual provisions, facts, and applicable law to provide early accurate case/matter risk assessment.
- Participate as an integral member of teams in the evaluation and development of detailed claims utilizing Kiewit’s propriety method. Retain and collaborate with outside counsel, internal resources, and external experts on the resolution of claims, disputes, and other matters.
- Coordinate resolution strategy with the internal stakeholders and subject matter experts.
- Lead strategic management of assigned legal matters in collaboration with internal and external resources and stakeholders.
- Provide training to operations leaders on “lessons learned.”
Qualifications
- Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited law school.
- Active membership in a state bar association.
- 5+ years of demonstrated legal experience with a law firm, corporate legal department, or public law department where the work was primarily litigation-related.
- Background in construction law, government contracts, government investigations, environmental law and labor law preferred but not necessary.
- Flexibility to travel as necessary to support the needs and demands of the work.
