Position Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior HSE Specialist with a minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in occupational health, safety, and environmental management within complex construction or industrial environments. CRSP certification is required for this role.

District Overview

Kiewit’s Eastern Canada District serves the construction and mining industries, operating across the eastern region of Canada. We specialize in highways, bridges, mass transit, mine site development and open pit operations, hydroelectric powerhouses, wind power, dams and industrial projects. 

Location

The successful candidate will be located in Ontario and willing to work on a remote turnaround project as their first assignment. The candidate will also be open to potentially relocating across Ontario and Eastern Canada for future assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of comprehensive HSE programs on active construction sites.
  • Champion adherence to the company’s Management System, ensuring consistent tracking and reporting.
  • Design and execute project-specific safety and environmental plans aligned with corporate and regulatory standards.
  • Conduct advanced hazard identification and risk assessments through thorough site inspections and audits.
  • Ensure full compliance with municipal, provincial, and federal regulations, acting as a subject matter expert.
  • Oversee and deliver strategic health and safety training programs, including compliance tracking and reporting.
  • Lead incident investigations, including near misses, with a focus on root cause analysis and implementation of corrective/preventive actions.
  • Manage procurement and inventory of safety equipment and supplies (PPE, rescue gear, first aid kits, etc.).
  • Collaborate closely with Project Managers, Supervisors, and cross-functional teams to embed safety into project planning and execution.
  • Travel regularly to various office and project locations, including fly-in/fly-out assignments as required.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Sciences, or a related field.
  • CRSP certification is mandatory
  • 15+ years of relevant experience in construction in a safety role
  • Proven leadership in managing HSE programs on large-scale or multi-site projects.
  • Experience with ISO Management Systems and integrated safety frameworks.
  • Deep knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and applicable provincial/federal regulations.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and safety management software platforms. #LI-IS1
