Position Overview

As a Mechanical Estimator, you will prepare, review, and present discipline estimates for specific project proposal activities. In this role, you will provide estimating assistance and guidance to projects, develop conceptual estimates, and perform cost analysis. You will be responsible for assisting in the development of discipline estimates, developing, and updating historical databases, and assisting in the development of department procedures. You will provide direction to others on estimating specific level tasks as required.

Location

This position is based in our office in Oakville.

Responsibilities

  • Determine installation quantities based on drawings and specifications
  • Prepare cost estimates on work for major projects locally and across Canada 
  • Develop comprehensive estimates for large and complex works
  • Review the owner's plans and specifications to gain a comprehensive understanding of the project; develop a plan for actual construction as the basis for the estimate
  • Review all tender and contract documents and advice from the home office legal department
  • Coordinate with other disciplines such as planning, scheduling, procurement, and proposal team
  • Prepare and present your estimate to management and external clients
  • Maintain a professional and trustworthy relationship with clients, professionals, subcontractors and suppliers
  • Collaborate with estimate team on continuous improvement initiatives

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience in nuclear estimation with relevant industry experience
  • 7 years of relevant experience in estimating for major projects
  • Experience in nuclear industry is a great asset.
  • Excellent knowledge of the Canadian construction market
  • Excellent communication English skills
  • Effective presentation and negotiation skills
  • Advanced computer skills, knowledge of MS Office, and Bluebeam software is an asset
  • Must be willing to travel as required to visit project sites or meet with clients for estimate specific needs
  • Well organized, flexible, team player, detail oriented and multi-tasked.
