Position Overview
Are you passionate about safety and ensuring everyone is working in a safe condition and environment? We are looking for Safety Specialists or Safety Site Coordinators to add to our team. These are full time positions that involve travel around the country to our project sites, working on Underground projects. In this role, you will wear lots of hats on our construction job sites, helping to plan, prioritize and problem solve with operations in the field every day. Our Safety Specialists are mentored and coached by more Senior Safety professionals, providing you with development to learn more complex safety responsibilities, as your grow your career. District Overview
The Underground District has been constructing underground facilities (tunneling, deep foundations) since 1949, and has completed more than 100 underground-related projects totaling more than $1B. We are consistently recognized as a leader in the tunneling industry, and our services include TBM Rock, TBM Soft Ground, Sequential Excavation, Drill and Blast, Shaft Excavation, Concrete, Tunnel Rehab and numerous trenchless methods.
Location

Our current needs are in Newburgh, NY, Lead, South Dakota, Ellicott City Maryland, and later in the year, in San Jose California. Locations subject to change based on business needs.
Responsibilities
• Exercise Stop Work Responsibility to ensure adherence to company policies, regulations, work plans, work packs, and detailed work plans
• Plan, prioritize, and problem-solve with operations in the field every day based on leading indicator trends and upcoming work
• Encourage, support, inspire, and advise staff and craft employees to execute the safety plans
• Assist with maintaining project files in compliance with OSHA/MSHA regulations and in compliance with our policies including accident/injury files
• Assist with incident investigations and implementation of effective solutions
• Complete a daily documented hazard inspection and assist operations, craft, and subcontractors with implementation of corrective actions
• Review work plans, work packs, and detailed work plans prior to the start of work
• Assist and provide safety training on policies, procedures, OSHA/MSHA, NCCER, SIMS, orientation, and client specific requirements
Qualifications
• Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Safety, or a related field of study preferred with 2+ years of heavy civil construction safety experience, performing functions as outlined above. We will consider candidates with a minimum of 4 years of heavy civil safety experience, in lieu of a degree.
• CHST Preferred.
• Experience with Underground projects desired
• Knowledge of OSHA and MSHA regulations and hazard recognition, record keeping and injury management skills.
• Working knowledge of computers and experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Strong organizational and time management skill & Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Good attention to detail, with the ability to recognize discrepancies & a strong work ethic with the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
• Ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environment.
• Regularly sit, stand, walk and talk and listen; occasionally lift and move up objects up to 30 pounds.
• Must be willing to relocate and go where the work is.
• Must be comfortable working in an underground environment, work off-shifts and possible weekends and able to free access all points of a construction site in wide ranging climates and environments around large moving equipment.

Base Compensation: $56,238 - $84,358
(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
