Position Overview

Our Underground district is seeking a HSE Trainer to support our ongoing project in Newburgh, NY. This role is essential in orientating new staff & craft, ensuring their introduction to potential hazards, and training of process and procedures related to safety on site.

District Overview

Recognized as a leader in the tunneling industry, Kiewit’s Underground District specializes in tunneling services including hard TBM, soft TBM, sequential excavation, drill and blast, shaft excavation, concrete, tunnel rehab and trenchless methods across all of Kiewit’s markets. Our operations span the United States on transportation, water/wastewater, environmental facilities, power, mining and telecommunications projects. 

Location

This position is to be based at our project site in Newburgh, NY. 

Responsibilities

  • The HSE Trainer will be responsible for the day-to-day safety training needs of the company
  • Work with HSE Specialists and Operations team to train new hires, staff & craft onsite
  • Work in a fast-paced environment and able to juggle multiple tasks
  • Generate and distribute training reports monthly or as needed
  • Maintain detailed record keeping (electronic and hard copy)
  • Coordinate with OQ & Training Manager for the scheduling and administration of employee training
  • Assist with Safety Training topics and organization
  • Assist safety managers & specialists on HSE department related issues
  • Frequently required to reach with hands and arms to grasp
  • Occasionally required to stand; walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl

Qualifications

  • Prior experience preparing & presenting educational material
  • Preferred prior experience in safety and/or construction industry
  • Strong computer abilities with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and SharePoint
  • Analyzes problems and makes sounds decisions in a timely manner based on HSE standards
  • Utilizes organizational skills with good attention to detail and emphasis on quality
  • Ability to speak to and engage audiences 
  • Displays good written and oral communication skills and employs effective listening skills
  • Displays tactful, mature and professional demeanor with good interpersonal skills including the ability to work with diverse personnel on site
  • Physical demands require ability to endure frequent physical activity, work long days and handle outdoor elements in a variety of indoor/outdoor conditions
  • Regularly required to sit, talk and hear
  • Ability to travel to different parts of the work site
  • Complies with Kiewit’s policies and procedures
  • Performs job safely with respect to others, property and individual safety
  • Works effectively with others to encourage teamwork and productivity
  • Eligible to work in the United States

Base Compensation: $60,000/yr - $63,000/yr

(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
