District Overview

Kiewit’s Bridge & Marine District headquartered in Vancouver, Washington, operates with heavy civil, marine, and industrial capabilities across North America. Initially, you will be assigned to a major Bridge project in Long Beach California.  We do offer relocation or travel assistance/per diem.  From a longer-term perspective, future projects could be in Vancouver Washington, Seattle Washington, California, or Oregon.


As a Safety Manager your responsibilities include but are not limited to: 
•    Managing the company environmental health and safety programs at the project level, driving a safety-oriented approach to work.  
•    Compiling, analyzing, and interpreting occupational illness and accident statistical data at the project level; recommending process and product safety features that will reduce employee exposure to chemical, physical, and biological work hazards.
•    Routinely inspecting the facilities, machinery, and safety equipment in order to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety regulation compliance. 
•    Routinely monitoring the workforce for unsafe behaviors and coach employees on the correct behaviors when observed.
•    Developing safety training materials to include manuals, brochures, PowerPoint presentations etc. and training Safety Specialists and inspectors on those materials.
•    Developing a paperwork management system to track training records to track all safety training initiatives conducted personally or by outside consultants/vendors. 
•    Interpreting safety regulations for the project.
•    Coordinating and presenting safety training to support client requirements including new hire orientation, fall protection, confined space, & lockout/tagout procedures.
•    Interfacing with Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) (Provincial or federal) officials/inspectors in the event or a site visit. 


Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or Industrial or equivalent degree/work experience
Minimum of 10 years of construction safety-related work in a lead Safety or Safety Manager role.  Experience in a Safety lead role on transportation projects or similar heavy civil construction is desired.  
Must be able to act independently with little or no supervision and work collaboratively on a team environment.
Ability to operate a standard personal computer as well as knowledge of and experience with standard office computer software. 
Ability to carry out duties in varying work environments including wide ranging weather conditions and terrain. 
Knowledge of construction safety, current Federal and OSHA requirements is required

Experience with Lead Abatement highly desired
