Position Overview

Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering (KIE) has an opening for a dynamic experienced Civil Designer in our growing Digital Delivery and Transit-Rail Production group. You will be part of our rapidly growing Infrastructure Design Department, which includes transit-rail, roadway, drainage, utilities, structural, geotechnical, and is a multi-faceted and leading-edge division of Kiewit with best-in-class technical expertise focused on the design-build delivery of infrastructure projects throughout the country.

Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering's Design-Build team is driving clients to turn to Kiewit during all stages of design-build projects. Through our integrated design and construction approach, our multi-disciplinary team works together to improve schedule, control costs and minimize risk. Our construction-focused engineers work collaboratively with our estimators and builders to design solutions that are innovative, constructible, and designed with a focus on safety. This position is based out of our Lone Tree, CO office.

Responsibilities

The candidate will be part of a design team responsible for completing engineering assignments in support of heavy civil construction for Kiewit Construction Companies’ business including transit-rail, roadway, drainage, utility design, preparation of design plans, and technical reports. Key responsibilities include the following:

•    In office work primarily
•    Manage the implementation of CAD/BIM standards and software—including MicroStation, AutoCAD, OpenRail Designer, Civil 3D, and other civil engineering design tools—based on department, client, and project requirements
•    Collaborating with engineering teams to identify and develop Digital Delivery execution plans for preliminary and final design packages for transit and rail projects
•    Prepare project and department progress reports and providing updates during project and department meetings
•    Responsible for developing, tracking, and overall management of CAD/BIM initiatives for the transit‑rail department, aligned with priorities, budget, and schedule, and in coordination with the Digital Delivery department
•    Assist the department in identifying opportunities for Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications and custom programming solutions
•    Strong verbal and written communication skills including the ability to write technical memos and papers, and present technical topics during department and project meetings.
•    Participate in design reviews to evaluate design concepts, conducting drafting and modeling quality reviews, and contributing to comment‑resolution meetings
•    Manage multiple projects and department needs based on assigned priorities, staffing, and deadlines
•    Responsible for assigning other transit-rail designers to projects and monitoring production, quality, and schedule based on department and project needs
•    Working with CAD/BIM software vendors, the Digital Delivery department, and the Kiewit Technology Group to identify technical needs, troubleshoot issues, and support departmental recommendations for future software requirements

Qualifications

•    Associate degree in computer aided design, 3D modeling, drafting, surveying, or a related program 
•    20+ years of experience leading CAD design, 3D modeling, and plan‑set production for medium to large transit and rail projects
•    Demonstrated experience leading and mentoring CAD designers while collaborating closely with department and project leadership to ensure high‑quality deliverables and successful project outcomes
•    Advanced proficiency with the use and management of AutoCAD, MicroStation (2D & 3D), Civil 3D, and OpenRail design applications
•    Strong skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint) for developing summary reports, meeting agendas, meeting minutes, and departmental documentation
•    Experience with Revit is a plus
•    Extensive knowledge of transit and rail design disciplines and requirements
•    Strong understanding of engineering principles, materials, and civil engineering drawings for construction
•    Experience supporting Design‑Build projects is an advantage
•    Strong critical‑thinking skills with the ability to plan ahead and conceptualize solutions
•    Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Base Compensation: $120,000/yr - $150,000/yr 
(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
