Position Overview
The Senior Project Engineer plays a key technical and operational role within the Building Division of one of North America’s leading Engineering and Construction companies. This position is designed for an experienced professional who can bridge the gap between preconstruction planning and field execution, ensuring technical excellence, schedule adherence, and client satisfaction.
The role offers immediate engagement on JV project work, with ongoing responsibilities supporting a portfolio of projects throughout Colorado and beyond. The Senior Project Engineer will operate as a trusted technical resource, assisting in project delivery while fostering long-term client relationships that reflect the company’s commitment to quality, integrity, and performance.
District Overview
Kiewit Southwest District specializes in heavy civil, transportation and water projects. We operate primarily in Arizona, Idaho, Nevada and Utah. Southwest's projects include a wide range of infrastructure projects such as highways, bridges, runways, terminals, transit systems, power plants, water treatment facilities, dams, canals, wastewater treatment plants and tunnels.

Responsibilities
Operational and Technical Leadership
• Serve as a primary technical resource supporting both field operations and project management teams, ensuring design integrity, constructability, and compliance with quality and safety standards.
• Provide engineering support for all stages of project execution—planning, scheduling, procurement, and field coordination.
• Collaborate with superintendents and field engineers to resolve design and constructability challenges in real time.
• Lead or support project documentation efforts, including RFIs, submittals, change management, and design coordination.
Preconstruction and Design Coordination
• Work closely with estimating, design, and scheduling teams during preconstruction to assess scope, cost, risk, and constructability.
• Participate in design review meetings, helping shape project solutions that balance cost efficiency, innovation, and client expectations.
• Assist in developing technical proposals and work plans that align with the company’s EPC delivery standards.
Client Relationship and Business Partnership
• Act as a key point of contact for clients, supporting the project manager and division leadership in fostering strong, transparent, and trust-based relationships.
• Participate in client meetings, design coordination sessions, and progress reviews, representing the company’s technical capabilities with professionalism and credibility.
• Proactively identify client needs and potential challenges, providing thoughtful, solutions-oriented input that strengthens partnerships and builds repeat business opportunities.
• Uphold the company’s reputation for excellence in service delivery—helping translate complex technical information into clear, actionable communication for clients and stakeholders.
• Support business development and pursuit efforts by contributing technical insight and lessons learned to proposals, presentations, and client strategy discussions.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
• Serve as the technical bridge between preconstruction, design, and field teams to ensure alignment across all project phases.
• Coordinate with internal design, estimating, procurement, and scheduling departments to maintain project consistency and quality.
• Mentor and develop junior engineers and project staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related technical field.
• Minimum 8 years of progressive experience in engineering or project management roles within the commercial or institutional building sector.
• Proven track record in client-facing roles with strong communication, relationship-building, and conflict-resolution skills.
• Deep understanding of construction methods, building systems, scheduling, and project controls.
• Experience with design-build or EPC delivery methods strongly preferred.
• Proficiency in relevant construction management software (e.g., Primavera P6, Bluebeam, Procore, Revit, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite).
• Demonstrated ability to balance field and office work, with flexibility to travel as project needs require.
