Position Overview

Kiewit Industrial & Water Engineering (KIWE) is seeking a Mid-Level Mechanical Engineer to design mechanical systems for Industrial facilities. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work with subject matter experts in mechanical and process engineering to advance your skills in mechanical design and process engineering.  Candidates shall have a minimum of 3 years of experience in mechanical or process engineering, including specific experience with piping, pumps, valves, compressors, etc... used within Industrial facilities.  We expect you to be familiar with current drawing and technical tools, programs, and software with an understanding of design documentation creation and layouts.  You will have the opportunity to work on a variety of work assignments supporting projects in a broad Industrial market, from conceptual design through construction.

Our rapidly growing Industrial Design Group, which includes process, electrical, controls, structural, architectural, geotechnical, and civil disciplines, is a multi-faceted and leading-edge division of Kiewit with best-in-class technical expertise focused on EPC and design-build delivery of industrial projects in markets such as Food & Beverage, Consumer Products, Heavy Manufacturing, Industrial Buildings Industrial Water and Utilities. We have specialized expertise in plant floor process design, packaging, refrigerated/frozen facility design, and ammonia refrigeration systems. 

Location

This position is based out of our Lone Tree, CO office and may require up to 25% travel on average based on project demands.

Responsibilities

•    Design various mechanical systems typical for water, wastewater treatment, biogas, bulk solids material handling, food and beverage, and other industrial facilities including, but not limited to, process piping, conveying systems, dust collection, general plant/facility water, compressed air, and gas systems.
•    Prepare design calculations and equipment specifications typical for biogas, bulk solids material handling, food and beverage, and other industrial facilities including, but not limited to, bulk solids conveyors, dust collection equipment, bins/tanks, pumps, heat exchangers, boilers, and other process equipment.
•    Perform detailed technical bid analyses for equipment typical for biogas, bulk solids material handling, food and beverage, and other industrial facilities. 
•    Generate and check design deliverables such as PFD’s, P&ID’s, datasheets, and vendor shop drawings in accordance with industry codes and standards, contract requirements, and company standards.
•    Support the construction team including representing the design team on-site, answering RFI’s, providing creative design solutions, etc.
•    Coordinate with other design partners (both internal and external) including construction partners, equipment suppliers, and other engineers and designers assigned to the project or task and review work progress and results.
•    Develop schedules, work assignments, and staffing requirements to ensure successful project completion.
•    Perform early project design work such as conceptual studies, process flow diagram development, mass/energy balances, preliminary equipment sizing and selection, and general facility layout/arrangement.

Qualifications

•    Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent engineering program from an ABET accredited four-year university.    
•    Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification required; Professional Engineer (P.E.) preferred. 
•    A minimum of 3 years of industry related mechanical engineering experience. 
•    Proficient in basic computing programs including the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
•    Preferred experience utilizing AFT Fathom or AFT Arrow hydraulic simulation software (or equivalent).

Base Compensation: $90,000 - $110,000 
(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
