Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Supplier Quality Surveillance (SQS) Engineer to join our team. This entry-level position offers the opportunity to support supplier quality efforts across diverse engineering projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards and project specifications. You will work closely with suppliers, inspectors, and internal teams to uphold quality throughout the supply chain.
District Overview
Kiewit provides a diverse range of shared service functions to assist our districts in their endeavors to pursue, win and successfully execute projects. Our shared services encompass Business Management, Kiewit Supply Network, Kiewit Technology Group, HR Operations, Safety, Environmental, Equipment, Quality, Legal, Compliance and more.
Location
This position is to be based out of our Lenexa, KS offices, with travel expected up to 25% of the time.
Responsibilities
- Support in managing a project specific supplier quality plan for assigned projects.
- Assist in reviewing and approving supplier manufacturing records (e.g., Inspection and Test Plans, Weld Procedure Specifications, Procedure Qualification Records, Welder Performance Qualifications, Material Test Reports, Coating Procedures).
- Develop strong working relationships with SQS Manager, clients, project management, and engineering teams.
- Learn and apply contract documents, codes, and standards relevant to assigned projects.
- Coordinate inspections with suppliers, customers, and third-party inspectors for permanent materials and engineered equipment packages (e.g., air-cooled condensers, boilers, rotating equipment, heat exchangers, tanks, piping).
- Support assigned inspectors in verifying compliance of engineered equipment to code and project requirements.
- Assist the Supplier Quality Surveillance Manager in educating project management, engineering, and construction teams on the supplier quality program.
- Track and resolve supplier nonconformities and quality issues.
- Ensure alignment between inspection and expediting activities.
- Travel as required to project sites, Kiewit sites, and supplier locations for assigned inspections.
- Undertake training and/or certifications as required.
- Assist in reviewing supplier deviation requests and technical queries related to Quality.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality, or a related technical discipline.
- Strong communication skills and professional demeanor.
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
- Detail-oriented, flexible, and self-motivated.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments independently.
- Strong work ethic and commitment to quality.
- Willingness to travel up to 25% across North America (e.g., to witness equipment testing, perform inspections and meet with suppliers).
Preferred Skills
- Familiarity with design and fabrication requirements in the power industry.
- Ability to comprehend advanced technical training and education.
