Position Overview

Kiewit Industrial & Water Engineering is seeking a Senior-Level Process Engineer, with primary focus in bioprocessing and food & beverage applications, for our growing Process Industries market. We are looking for an ideal candidate to grow the Kiewit team by providing subject matter expertise, developing and maintaining company resources and tools, and contributing to project execution and company success.
This person will expand the capabilities of the Process Engineering team by providing technical and leadership support for process evaluations, equipment selection, and design and optimization of plant systems to support the engineering and construction teams. This person shall be capable of exhibiting flexibility in work assignment while continuing to develop and grow their technical and professional career.

Location

This position will be based out of Kiewit regional office in Lenexa, KS (Kansas City metro area). Relocation is preferred; remote work locations will be fairly considered on a case-by-case basis.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical and leadesrhip support over various process systems typical for bioprocesses, food & beverage process applicatios and production facilities.
  • Support early project development efforts, such as conceptual studies and basis of design documentation.
  • Support development of design specifications and detailed technical bid analyses for various process equipment/machinery typical for bioprocesses, food & beverage process applications and production facilities.
  • Support development and validate design deliverables such as engineering reports, equipment arrangements, process simulations, datasheets, engineering calculations ad vendor shop drawings in accordance with industry codes and standards and good engineering practices.
  • Provide front line resolution of technical issues associated with design, construction, equipment, and/or operations.
  • Interface with clients and partners to support project and business development needs, including cost estimating and proposal development.
  • Represent the project team for on-site activities and provide creative design solutions to ensure successful project completion.
  • Coordinate, communicate, and oversee all aspects of project process design with internal/external design partners including but not limited to Client(s) and stakeholders, third-party engineering partners, construction partners, equipment & machinery suppliers, and other participating engineers and designers.
  • Provide oversight and coordination of multiple projects simultaneously, working with the assigned design managers and multi-disciplinary engineering teams to meet associated budgets and schedules.
  • Develop man-power budgets and schedules, project work assignments, and recommend staffing requirements to ensure successful project completion.
  • Train, mentor, and advise entry and mid-level engineers for skill development and proper application of industry standards and engineering best practices.
  • Support development of company resources and tools to improve design production and efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Biological, and/or Agricultural Engineering. Food Sciences or equivalent engineering program from an ABET-accredited university.
  • Professional Engineer license (P.E.) preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of industry-related process engineering experience, including specific experience with bioreactors, reactors, cell/microbe biomass, chemical catalyst, biocatalyst, biomaterial feedstock, and/or similar type food & beverage process applications
  • Strong familiarity with Front End Loading (FEL) and FEED project design processes, drawings and technical tools, simulation programs, and software with an understanding of design documentation creation and layout process.
  • A broad understanding of bioprocessing and food & beverage market considerations.
  • Strong familiarity and relationships with key industry suppliers/vendors/OEMs.
  • Proven experience leading an engineering and design team is preferred.
  • Hands-on manufacturing & system start-up, commissioning and operation experience is preferred.
  • Willing and available to accommodate up to 25% intermittent travel, based on project and team demands.
  • Strong familiarity navigating simulation software suites/calculation tools such as ApenTech, Chemcad, Intelligen, Matlab, ANSYS Fluent or other systems.
  • Proven experience with Microsoft Office suite and Windows based PC hardware.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills/competencies to interact and communicate with Clients and internal/external partners.
