Position Overview
Kiewit’s Power Engineering group in Lenexa is currently seeking Civil Engineers with experience in utility scale solar development and design or comparable skills. Civil engineers in this position are typically responsible for supporting renewable and alternative energy proposals and projects.
This individual would perform preliminary & detailed designs, specifications, permitting support, and field support. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in development of large land use facilities including storm water run-off and retention design, large scale grading plans, erosion control, and construction support.

Location
This position is based out of our Lenexa, KS office with opportunity for hybrid work.
Responsibilities
Kiewit is looking for a committed, energized and highly motivated individual with a strong drive for achieving excellence. A Civil Engineer is responsible for, but not limited, to the following responsibilities as related to civil engineering design:
- Independently evaluate, select, and apply engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to site development projects.
- Work with various agencies to establish and close permits for land intensive projects.
- Develop design for an assigned system that may include analysis, calculations, research, selection, layout, etc. necessary to develop required design documents.
- Utilize knowledge of departmental design standards and applicable engineering codes to review prepared drawings and documents for conformance; work with civil designers to ensure quality procedures are followed.
- Plan and schedule scope to analyze staffing and budgeting.
- Coordinate design efforts with all project personnel in all disciplines and departments ranging in moderate to large or complex projects.
- Collaborate with entry and mid-level employees for skills development; review work progress and results and provide direction as needed.
- Utilize basic civil engineering software packages and computer-aided drafting software in accordance with industry codes and standards.
- Collaborate with various Project Managers to provide expertise and support business needs.
- Provide recommendations and suggestions on designs as well as processes and standards.
- Work closely with construction partners in a collaborative manner to ensure total project success.
- Follow proposal and project execution plans including deliverables lists, schedule, budget, and manpower projections required to successfully execute the proposal or project.
- Assist with post proposal submittal bid strategy, answer questions and participate in closing projects.
- Maintain a strong network of industry related individuals for the purpose of expanding Kiewit’s services and opportunities.
- Ensure Quality Control of services and deliverables is followed, in accordance with the Kiewit Company Quality Plan.
- Follow proper Scope Management so that the scope of services required by Contract is provided and that out-of-scope work is properly compensated.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualities:
- A minimum of 5 years proven civil engineering design experience in this or comparable industries.
- Strong project team orientation and networking skills
- High degree of self-motivation
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
COMPUTER SKILLS
- Experience with computer assisted engineering and design software, preferably AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Experience with drainage calculation software like HEC-RAS 2D is beneficial.
- Must have an effective level of experience working with spreadsheets and databases.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor of Science degree in related field (i.e., civil engineering)
- PE license is expected.
TRAVEL
- May occasionally travel to project sites to perform inspections, field measurements, and assist construction personnel in reviewing vendor and Kiewit designs.
