Position Overview

Leads Engineering Quality across multiple projects with a team of up to 5. Sets clear expectations, coaches the team, verifies that projects are following the process and meet company, contract, and code requirements. Creates, plans, and runs audits, tracks issues to closure, and drives measurable improvements within the district.

Kiewit's Power Engineering Group brings various project types to life across North America, including gas-fired generation, power delivery, environmental retrofits, renewables and new technology, and water/wastewater. Our staff leads the power markets engineering process and collaborates with Kiewit's construction teams to focus on safe, cost-effective and innovative designs that achieve client expectations and further Kiewit's legacy of excellence.

This position is based out of our office in Lenexa, KS.

Responsibilities

  • Quality Management System (QMS) Ownership
    • Stand up the QMS on projects; keep it simple and used.
    • Build Project Quality Plans, close gaps, and enforce procedures across design stages.
  • Assurance & Compliance
    • Plan and lead audits (single and multi-assessor).
    • Trend nonconformances, lead root cause analysis, and track corrective actions to closure.
  • Design Deliverable Quality
    • Ensure peer reviews are performed and documented (calcs, specs, drawings, models).
    • Monitor high-risk deliverables (P&IDs, one-lines, etc.).
  • Change & Document Control
    • Review revision control for design changes, deviations, and RFIs.
    • Validate vendor document reviews and transmittals.
  • Cross-Company Collaboration
    • Partner with estimating, procurement, construction, and warranty to provide “life of the project” quality coverage.
    • Represent quality to our clients; prep teams for client/third-party audits.
  • Risk Management
    • Facilitate risk identification and tracking.
    • Escalate material risks early with clear options and impacts.
  • Metrics & Reporting
    • Assist with building PowerBI report dashboards for tracking Quality Issues and audit findings.
    • Roll up project and district reporting; highlight trends and actions.
  • Team Leadership 
    • Assign, manage, and mentor a quality team of up to 5 based depending on scope.
    • Set expectations, give feedback, and develop skills through targeted training.
  • Communication & Collaboration
    • Translate procedural requirements into practical steps for engineers and PMs.
    • Be an effective and efficient communicator to the project teams and district management.
  • Professional Development
    • Maintain relevant certifications and working knowledge of codes/standards.
    • Advice on quality implications of new methods, tools, and regulations.

Qualifications

  • Education and Experience:
    • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical field.
    • 5+ years of project engineering experience.
    • Strong engineering or technical background related to assigned responsibilities.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
    • Ability to build relationships and collaborate across organizational levels.
    • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
    • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
    • Ability to aggregate data across multiple datasets to analyze trends.
    • Strategic thinking and initiative to drive improvements and align with business objectives.
  • Computer Skills:
    • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
    • Familiarity with data analysis tools and technologies supporting quality functions.
    • Experience with quality management software and database applications.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
    • Relevant quality certifications preferred: ASQ Certified Quality Auditor, ASQ Certified Manager of Quality and Organizational Excellence, Six Sigma Green Belt, etc.
  • Additional Requirements:
    • Ability to travel to project sites as needed (at most monthly).
    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods.
    • The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
