Position Overview

Kiewit Power Engineering (KPE) has an immediate opening for a dynamic Senior Design Engineering Manager in our growing Power Delivery group. You will be part of our rapidly growing Design Department, which includes Underground and Submarine Transmissio, and materials disciplines, is a multi-faceted and leading-edge division of Kiewit with best-in-class technical expertise focused on the design-build delivery of infrastructure projects. 

In this role you will have the opportunity to significantly impact the growth of the Kiewit Power Engineering and its direct leadership and support to the Kiewit Power Delivery Group for alternative delivery projects. You will have the opportunity to leverage and manage our Kiewit Engineering staff and sub-consultants to deliver projects across North America.

This position is based out of Lenexa, KS, and typically requires travel across the United States or as business necessitates.


• Manage and direct project teams by providing communication, coordination, and follow-up to meet project goals and objectives; ensure project scope or work, schedule, and budget are clearly defined and understood.
• Establish project procedures consistent with contractual documents and quality plans for all engineering work; determine and oversee all project controls, schedules, and budgets.
• Serve as project representative with the client, constructor, subcontractors, and vendors at kick-off meetings, job walks, project review, and other meetings and correspondence.
• Coordinate training and compliance measures to ensure project procedures are followed.
• Identify and secure necessary approvals for all changes in project scope, budget and/or schedule.
• Maintain ongoing communication with the client, making adjustments as necessary to comply with client needs within contractual obligations, or adjust project deliverables to meet client and Kiewit needs.
• Ensure all work products are consistent with industry standards and in accordance with good engineering practice and applicable codes, and in compliance with all pertinent legal codes and requirements.
• Provide ongoing training and mentoring to entry and mid-level engineers to promote employee development.
• Utilize extensive knowledge of basic engineering fundamentals and practices to track and budget progress with project milestones.


  • Bachelor’s degree or greater in Civil Engineering with a focus on Underground Transmission 
  • Licensed Professional Engineer with ability to obtain in other states as the project may require.
  • 15+ yrs of directly related experience with at least five of these years in a Senior Design Manager position with project management responsibility on large complex multidisciplinary projects. 
  • Successful completion of management role in delivery of one or more projects in excess of $500 million in construction value with a minimum of three or more in excess of $250 million.  
  • 5 or more years of managing an engineering and design team of at least 5 or more
  • Ability to travel across the United State or as business necessitates
