Position Overview

Kiewit Power Engineering (KPE) Group has an opening for a Process Engineer in our Carbon Capture market group based in Lenexa, KS. The Carbon Capture market is an exciting and rapidly growing market as the world looks to further reduce carbon emissions. Our Carbon Capture market group is responsible for all projects related to capturing carbon in all industries, including power, industrial, oil and gas and refineries.

This position is based out of Lenexa, KS.

Responsibilities

  • Develop Process Engineering deliverables on mid- to large-size projects or proposals. Process Engineering scope commonly includes all phases of design development, from conceptual engineering, through front-end and detailed engineering, and including field support of startup and performance testing efforts.
  • Efficiently and effectively generate design deliverables such as:  process design basis, philosophy documents, process simulations, material balances, PFDs (process flow diagrams), P&IDs (piping & instrumentation diagrams), equipment data sheets, man-hour estimating, and engineering calculations (hydraulics, initial equipment sizing, etc.).
  • Perform research and recommend technologies, equipment, and material selections.
  • Understand client’s key considerations and concerns and address throughout the project lifecycle through technology selection and design philosophy. 
  • Manage and interpret data and results from multiple projects.
  • Support business development activities including RFP reviews, proposals, project estimates, engineering fee estimates, etc.
  • Serves as technical specialist and point of contact for external or internal customers. 
  • Evaluate carbon capture technologies and communicate key considerations to industrial and power customers.
  • Identify creative design solutions that optimize project capital or operating costs, equipment reliability, or project schedule.
  • Clearly convey concepts verbally, during presentations, and in well-constructed, concise written documents.

Qualifications

  • Experience with carbon capture technologies, or gas purification technologies, such as amine, cryogenic, solid sorbent, membrane, direct air capture, etc. is highly valued. 
  • Experience with technologies associated with carbon capture such as CO2 transportation, compression, dehydration, steam generation, wastewater treatment, etc. is highly valued. 
  • Experience with hydrogen production technologies, especially blue or green hydrogen production, is highly valued. 
  • Experience with process simulators, such as HYSYS, Pro II, ProMax, ProTreat, etc. 
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering required.
