Kiewit is seeking a technical project manager for our NERC CIP and End User Experience needs.  A successful candidate must have experience creating and driving IT/technical projects from inception to completion while working with both technical, (our corporate IT and SMEs), and non-technical parties, (Engineers, Designers, and management.)  This position is a hybrid of “hands on” technical work in addition to managing resources as a project manager.

On the NERC CIP side, the candidate must have familiarity with NERC CIP requirements and implementation experience along those lines, (i.e. actually able to standup POCs and guide end solutions as appropriate.)  This position is expected to be the technical owner of our NERC CIP needs from inception and is expected to communicate needs and plans as this area grows.  This is a technical position, with a project management side and soft skills are required.  Experience in this type of role is a requirement.

On the User Experience side, the candidate must have the technical knowledge to set baselines for end user experience, (i.e. how their engineering and design applications perform on end clients, Citrix, and the Cloud), along with infrastructure performance expectations.  This position will be expected to use those baselines along with their own troubleshooting skills to allow them to identify the root cause(s) of performance issues in a distributed environment for Engineering and Design applications, (Intergraph, Bentley, AutoDesk are good examples of the types of applications we use.)   Experience in this type of role is a requirement. 

This position will be the owner of both of these areas and they’ll be expected to execute initial plans and approaches, get sign off for additional scope as these progress, and keep the business informed of needs as these progress.  While initial plans will be provided, it is expected this role will define future work and scope, (derived from  business needs), get those plans approved, work directly with the various parties involved to drive the projects, escalate issues appropriately as they arise, (fail fast), complete the projects successfully, and to get, (and communicate), lessons learned.  While this position will not have direct reports, experience there is a plus.

Successful in this role will be measured by several factors, however the major measurements are meeting business needs in the above two areas, timeliness, budget, and tracking lessons learned.  Candidates must have the ability to identify milestones, dependencies, and map out and plan projects overall.  As this is a hybrid technical / project manager position, a candidate’s communication and “soft skills” will strongly correlate with their success and satisfaction in this role. 

This position represents the business needs for an Engineering and Design environment for NERC CIP and User Experience as defined above.  The areas listed below represent the other types of work the team has.  While primary responsibilities are as above, the candidate can expect to get exposure to some of the areas below.  Candidates are NOT required to have experience in the areas below to be considered, but it is a plus. 

1. Building/campus moves – (Experience here is a plus for a candidate)
a. Server, network, and other back end infrastructure moves
b. Client side impacts
2. Software standups and upgrades - (Engineering and Design software support experience a plus)
a. Cloud/Citrix/Thick client
b. From basic client only software to full multi-tier engineering and design software
3. Server and database upgrades – (Experience with complicated software with lots of interdependencies a plus)
4. Migration of software to Cloud/Citrix – (This is a major initiative of ours, so experience here is a plus too)
5. Access control, Active Directory cleanup/structuring, and security, and sensitive data needs
6. Storage, (NAS/SAN/Cloud), Nasuni, Azure, backups, retention, etc… in an Engineering and Design environment
7. Engineering and Design software support, (Intergraph, Bentley, AutoDesk, and others)

Ability to travel is a plus, and international travel is also a plus, however neither are required for this position.  (10% or less expected for requirements gathering, kick offs, getting things back on track, etc…)

This position is part of the Engineering and Design Technology Group.  This group represents the business needs of our Engineering and Design groups within Kiewit for technical needs.  We serve as a liaison between our Corporate IT group and our users to facilitate technical projects.  Our group serves as the “go to” organization for users to handle issues/projects which are too complicated for our normal IT processes to resolve easily. 

You will need to be able to multitask to be successful and the position is a mix of direct technical work and facilitation of work through other parties in a project management type role.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree.  Technical field preferred.
- Minimum 10 years' experience in a Project Manager role for IT/Applications systems for configuration, customization and application support.
- NERC CIP experience, (again implementation or management)
- End User Experience management and troubleshooting, (ability to set baselines and troubleshoot)
- Experience in one or more of the 7 areas listed above as a Project Manager – Not a requirement, but a solid plus.
- Familiarity with application virtualization, (e.g. Citrix XenApp and XenDesktop), as solid plus
- Azure/AWS experience
- Knowledge of Network Servers, backup server systems, and security protocols for complex IT networks and their requirements for Engineering/Design software workflows, basic IT structure and how to manage users and groups.
- Knowledge of software administration and user-support function.
- Problem solving and analytical skills.
- Solid written and oral communication skills, including the ability to present facts and opinions in a logical and concise manner.
- Ability to communicate with a wide variety of individuals in a constructive manner.
- This position may require periodic work during off hours/days outside the normal working hours/days at Kiewit. Flexibility and willingness to work as and when required in addition to the normal working hours is essential.
