Position Overview
Kiewit Power Engineering is seeking an Early Career Mechanical Engineer. We are looking for ideal candidates to grow the Kiewit team by helping establish, maintain, and improve company standards and tools while also utilizing these standards and tools to contribute to project success. Candidates shall be familiar with current drawing and technical tools, programs, and software with an understanding of design documentation creation and layouts. Candidates shall be capable of exhibiting flexibility in work assignments while maintaining a growth mindset and continuing to develop in their technical and professional career.

Our rapidly growing Power district, which includes structural, civil, piping, mechanical, process, process safety, electrical, instrument and control disciplines, is a multi-faceted division of Kiewit with best-in-class technical expertise focused on the EPC delivery model for power facilities. We offer a variety of engineering services, including owner's engineering, project development, detailed engineering and design, construction management and plant services. Our engineering teams bring power projects to life across North America in the following areas:
- Gas-fired generation
- Power delivery
- Environmental retrofits
- Renewables and new technology
- Water/wastewater
Location
This position is based out of our Lenexa, KS office.
Responsibilities
• Assist in the design of mechanical piping and instrument diagrams (P&IDs) for power plant, carbon capture facilities, or renewable energy systems including steam cycle systems, boiler feed and condensate, water treatment, fuel handling, hydraulic, heat transfer systems, conveying systems, and air and gas systems.
• Prepare design calculations and specifications for major power plant, carbon capture facilities, or renewable energy related equipment including, but not limited to, combustion turbines, steam turbines, boilers, condensers, cooling towers, and pumps.
• Prepare pipe stress model analysis for power generation, carbon capture or renewable energy
• Prepare mechanical engineering designs, including layout, design sketches, and conceptual design.
• Check design deliverables in accordance with industry codes and standards, contract requirements and company standards.
• Assist in the development of schedules, work assignments, and staffing requirements to ensure successful project completion.
• Coordinate with other drafters, designers, and engineers assigned to the project or a task and review work progress and results.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited four-year university
• Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification preferred
• GPA above 3.0 preferred
• Proficient in basic computer programs including MS Word and Excel, web browsing and e-mail programs
Working Conditions
• Fast-paced office environment; must be able to interact professionally with all levels of management while simultaneously manage a diversified workload and challenging situations efficiently and effectively; regularly sit, stand, walk and talk and listen; occasionally lift and move up objects up to 30 pounds.
• Travel in the U.S. and internationally (5-15%).
