Position Overview
Kiewit Nuclear Solutions is seeking entry level Mechanical Engineers. We are looking for ideal candidates to grow the Kiewit team by helping establish, maintain, and improve company standards and tools while also using these standards and tools to contribute to project success. Candidates shall be familiar with current drawing and technical tools, programs, and software with an understanding of design documentation creation and layouts. Candidates shall be capable of exhibiting flexibility in work assignments while maintaining a growth mindset and continuing to develop in their technical and professional career.

Location
This role is in Oak Ridge, TN or Lenexa, KS.
Responsibilities
- Apply knowledge of thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and power plant engineering
- Responsibilities include preparing calculations, specifications, and technical reports to support client reviews, as well as conducting equipment sizing, optimization evaluation, and selection based on project requirements
- The role includes supporting project teams with other Mechanical Engineers in system engineering, such as the design, modification, and analysis of power plant mechanical systems
- Assist with designing piping and instrument diagrams (P&IDs) for mechanical systems in projects related to commercial nuclear and small modular nuclear reactor technologies
- Assist with preparing design calculations and specifications for major power plant equipment, including combustion turbines, steam turbines, boilers, condensers, cooling towers, pumps, air compressors, and water treatment systems
- Assist with preparing mechanical engineering designs, including layouts, design sketches, and conceptual designs
- Support procurement activities by assisting in evaluating vendor bids for compliance with technical specifications
- May involve travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews and to plant sites for construction coordination
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from an ABET accredited four-year university required Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification preferred
- GPA above 3.0 preferred
- Proficient in basic computing programs including the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Preferred experience using Bluebeam, AFT Fathom, AFT Arrow, and Bentley AutoPIPE software
- Strong work ethic, willing to do what it takes to get the job done
- Must be a US citizen with documentation for badge access
- Pass a security questionnaire and background check appropriate to position duties
