In this role, you will learn the trenchless business and the Kiewit way of doing business. You will support proposal efforts as well as planning, organizing and implementing project engineering & project controls tasks for new projects. Excellent communication, attention to detail and an ability to work well in a team environment are considered critical to this position. You will be required to perform engineering work in connection with a wide variety of underground projects that range in size, difficulty, and duration. You will also be involved in the district estimating unit at various points in your career, which involves quantity takeoffs, time studies, cost estimating, participating in estimate reviews and bid close-out.

Please keep in mind that we are an Underground Construction business, so chances are that a majority of your day will be spent working Underground. Services include TBM Rock, TBM Soft Ground, Sequential Excavation, Drill and Blast, Shaft Excavation, Concrete, Tunnel Rehab, and Numerous Trenchless Methods.

Responsibilities
- Support construction activities by planning, organizing and implementing project engineering & project controls tasks as required for successful project execution. This includes: Safe work planning and execution, Quality control, Quantity tracking , Budget management, Financial reporting and forecasting, Cash flow management, Scheduling, Operations work planning, Contract / subcontract administration, Change management, Document control, Project closeout
- Provide supervision and on-the-job training for lower level engineers.
- Develop complete understanding of contract plans and specifications
- Assist the project team in implementing Kiewit’s Quality Management system.
- Inspect field conditions and identify problems, inaccuracies, and cost saving measures that arise or that may be encountered. Take corrective actions as needed
- Inspect subordinates’ work for compliance with the contract plans and specifications, point out deficiencies and explain and take any corrective action needed.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements for executing projects.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of related experience in project or field engineering, specifically in Heavy Civil Construction. Experience with Conventional Tunnels, TBM, Micro Tunnels, or Trenchless is preferred. Candidates with 3+ years of field/project engineering in Heavy Civil with a Masters will also be considered.
- HDD experience a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction-related technology in any discipline from a four-year college or university
- Must have working knowledge and be able to direct the operation of construction management reporting systems
- Must be able to interact professionally with all levels of management, client representatives, staff and craft while simultaneously managing a diversified workload and challenging situations efficiently and effectively
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Proven abilities and skills in leadership and management of people, planning, organization and delegation
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office products (e.g. Excel, Work, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Demonstrated commitment to ethics and integrity
- Proof of eligibility to legally work in the United States without sponsorship, both now and in the future
- The physical ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environmental conditions
- Travel in the U.S. as required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Basic all-around knowledge of geotechnical engineering, ground improvement techniques, structural deep foundation methods, and support of excavation (SOE) operations. Ground Improvement experience includes rigid inclusions, soil mixing, vibro-replacement (stone columns), vibro-compaction, compaction grouting, permeation grouting, jet grouting, and deep dynamic compaction.
- Recent knowledge of Bluebeam and Adobe/PDF software preferred
- Ability and desire to travel and relocate as business requires. Project assignments may involve full relocation or temporary assignments facilitated by a turnaround schedule.
