Position Overview
The Finance Controller serves as the CFO and trusted advisor to Operations Managers and Executive Management, playing a critical leadership role in shaping the financial direction and operational success of the organization. This role is the cornerstone of our finance and accounting functions, ensuring that our business decisions are grounded in accurate, timely, and strategic financial insight.
You will be accountable for the integrity, accuracy, and clarity of all financial reporting, while developing and maintaining internal controls and procedures that promote financial discipline and operational efficiency. This position partners closely with senior leadership to provide insightful analysis and forward-looking guidance to support key business objectives.
As a strategic leader, you will monitor and influence operational strategies, help identify opportunities for growth and cost optimization, and serve as the primary point of contact for operational support teams and joint venture partners, ensuring clear visibility into project financial health.
In addition to financial stewardship, this role is responsible for recruiting, mentoring, and developing top finance talent, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and high performance.

District Overview
Kiewit Power Engineers brings various project types to life across North America, including gas-fired generation, power delivery, environmental retrofits, renewables and new technology, and water/wastewater. Our staff leads the power markets engineering process and collaborates with Kiewit's construction teams to focus on safe, cost-effective and innovative designs that achieve client expectations and further Kiewit's legacy of excellence.

This position is based out of Lenexa, KS.
Responsibilities
- Acts a key leader in the organization by exemplifying the core values of Kiewit culture.
- Be able to analyze and effectively communicate financial results of the organization to executive level management, including revenue, cost, backlog, overheads, G&A, etc.
- Earn trust, credibility, and buy in of processes from Operations team to create better cohesion and clear communication within the organization
- Ensure proper implementation and execution of internal controls to maintain highest level of data integrity
- Develop accurate budgets, drive accountability, and provide integrated ways to improve cost across the entire organization
- Set aggressive goals and high standards to continuously improve business processes (tools & reports) and targets (projects and overheads)
- Communicate development goals, constructive feedback, and future opportunities clearly and completely in conversations with all team members
- Challenge, motivate, and lead subordinates towards a common goal, while providing radically honest feedback along the way
- Pave the way of the future by striving to hire the best and brightest finance talent for the organization
- Deliver impactful presentation of goals and progress during strategic business planning sessions
- Reviews all estimate cash flows, payment terms, and Joint Venture agreements in detail for financial risks and opportunities
- Thorough reviews of each project/department projections and reporting
Qualifications
- 7+ years of financial/data analysis experience preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, and/or an equivalent degree is required
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, claims and accounting practices.
- Strong financial management skills including cash management, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Ability to lead a team, manage the monthly and annual reporting processes, and communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.
- Excellent organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work under pressure and consistently achieve required deadlines.
- Very detailed oriented, but also able to see the “big picture”. Ability to think both analytically and creatively.
- Deep knowledge of Microsoft Excel
- Excellent communication skills, resourcefulness and initiative
- Travel may be required for this position
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- CPA, MBA, or public accounting experience preferred
- Proven track record of successfully developing or managing a team
